Default Size of site

I'm ready to start doing my art work in Photoshop. What is a good image size?
Is 955 x 600 pixels good?

Thanks for your help

It doesn't really matter. It should not be that big, but have a repetitive figure when it's about to become gib enough to leave the screen of the lowest resolution a person uses.

Ok I think I get it.
Repetitive figure would be an image/object that is stepped and repeated i.e. a small piece of a gradient background. This would fill the area when viewed no matter what size it is being viewed at. Is that correct?

Also, when you said gib did you mean big?

Thanks so much for your time

If your talking about the overall size of your site, then you want to make it compatible with peoples monitor resolution, pretty much everybody using a computer has a screen resolution of 1024x768 or higher

Hope that helps and doesn't confuse you

It should not really matter, but you may want to consider delivering your files in whatever the most popular screen resolutions are people use. That way people could use it as a desktopbackground and also youd be more likely to get more hits to your site.
say 1024x768 -1680x1050
