Default Capturing of Video from website

Hi,

I have Orbit, Youtube Downloader and Magic Video program that allows me to capture certain embedded video from the web but there is still plenty that still cannot be recognised by these programs. What other quality software can you recommend ? Is Media Catcher good ?

Can I use Camtasia Studio to capture embedded video as well ?

Appreciate all the tips that you can highlight so that I can try it out.

Thanks,
William

William,

Since Camtasia can record your screen activity I suppose you can but I've never used it for that. My main concern with capturing embedded video is the legalities/ethics.

ScreenVirtuoso and CamStudio do it well.

Arrow why is my video on youtube low quality?

When you upload a video to YouTube, it is transcoded (decoded to raw video, then re-encoded) into flash video (FLV) format. The video frame size is scaled to no larger than 320x240. I haven't been able to tell exactly what the rates are, but the frame rate appears to be between 25 and 30 frames per second, and the video data rate appears to be somewhere around 200 Kilobits (kbps) per second. Audio is reduced to mono and transcoded to a lower bit rate. This transcoding is what's going on in between the time you complete your upload to YouTube, and the time that the video is finally available for viewing.
200 kpbs is an exceptionally low data rate for video. By comparison, typical DVD rates are around 8 Megabits per second (mbps), and DV video has a rate of 25 mbps. Of course, these formats have over four times as many pixels as a YouTube video. Computing the data rate on a per-pixel basis, DVD video has a data rate about 9 times greater than the FLV format used at YouTube, and DV video has a data rate nearly 28 times greater.

so that is why a you tube video is lower quality then on your PC, but how to solve that problem I don't know technically.

Hi all, thanks for the answer. I tried using Camtasia and it works well but alot of work. Capturing then converting before usable.

The capturing of embedded video is still a grey issue that many talks about but I have always felt that as long as I do not re-use or re-distribute it in public, I should be on the safe side of the law. Besides, some video seems so important that if I do not capture it there and then, it might just "disappear" the next time I want to view it etc.

I usually capture those video that is tutorial-based, which listener or viewer can only absorb less than 20% of the content the first time round. It also gives me idea on what I want to do next with my website or webcontent too.

Your comments ?

Cheers !
