Are there any sites where people submit their photos that we can download and use for free?
I'm not talking royalty free only...I mean totally free.

It all depends on what you want to do with the pictures. There are plenty of sites that offer free photos but they all come with terms.. usually the things people would like to use photos for aren´t allowed.

Exactly! Good point Nora and thanks for bringing it up...

We all must remember that whenever someone posts anything to the Web it is instantly copyrighted by that person as intellectual or creative property. Unless otherwise stated by the owner/creator, you can't just take it for your own use. There are always terms and conditions and you should become aware of what they are. Or at the very least, express to the owner your intent and ask for permission. Contrary to public perception, the Internet is not a Free store of whatever you want. If someone has put the time and energy into creating something don't slap them in the face by stealing their work...

This subject comes up every so often. Every time I have gone to a picture site and read the rules (sometimes hard to find) there have been buried somewhere little requirements like, "You cannot use this on any site designed to make money." Put up a google ad and you are disqualified.

But the point that I like to add is that even when you get rights to a photo you ordinarily do not get model rights. This is important because if there are people in a picture you must have from them a release to use the picture legally. Even if they are at a public event it is a potential problem, unless they are a public figure, at least.

I have found my own solution. I got it from Nikon.

If you want a royalty free photo site then here is one http://www.pdphoto.org/
You are even allowed to sell the photos on that site if I remember correctly :P but when you click to view a photo in large mode then read not all photos allow this.
