Can you be a little more clear on what you are trying to do?

I use bannersketch.com when I get lazy and don't feel like making my own in photoshop..
Hope that helps,
Good luck.

After you figure out what the dimensions are, you can just use a simple image editing software to create it and save as a gif, jpg, or png file (depending on how many color you'll use and if it uses transparency). Or, as SHFarm mentioned, you can use a service.
What are you using to position the banner? CSS, Tables?

I use "photoscape," it's a free download you can get if you just google it.

There's also gimp.com, xheader.com, and picnik.com. I haven't used them myself because I have Photoshop, but I've heard they work well.

Another free service is BannerFans - very easy to use with surprisingly sophisticated features. Your banner will have a small, non-intrusive watermark, but it's a great way to bring your ideas to the surface.

banner not uploading
Hi,
I've tried uploading a banner 780 by 600 to my website but its not working...the size of the banners in the drop down list is 230x56. Wasnt sure if I need to upload the bigger or smaller size? I right clicked on the banner on the preview section and it said 780x600 in properties. Thats why I wasnt sure which size to upload.
