Default How do I change size of images?

I went crazy taking pictures for my website this weekend with my new camera. I uploaded everything to Wordpress.org with no problems. The only problem that I am having is making the images smaller. It only comes up full size and will not allow me to change the option to thumbnail. It will allow me to chnage to location of the image (center, left ect.) I have been trying to figure it out and just can't. It is probably starring me in the face but I'm not seeing it. If anyone can assist please let me know and help me out. Full size is toooooooooooooo biggggggggggg lol.

Default Try Irfanview

You can do it with most graphic programs, but I would download IrfanView. It is free and easy to use.

You can just open an picture, click image on the menu bar and from the drop down select resize. There are very user friendly form entries to select size and dpi (set at 72 for web use).

Many pro's use this even if they use Photoshop for most work because it is so quick and easy to resize pictures and a few other things. Also, it allows you to open and save in a lot of image formats, including icon extensions (ico).

I appreciate the reply. I will look at the program tommorrow. Would I be able to resize using code or do I have to upload the picture in the exact size that I want. My other pictures that I took with a cheap throw away camera let me resize in Wordpress but the pictures on the new expensive camera come out giant- go figure. I will try tommorrow and see what happens. I hope that it is novice friendly as I am still learning. Any other advice would be appreciated. If worse comes to worse I will send it my family member who can change it for me using Photoshop.

I recommend resizing in an image editor as they will usually provide better quality images after resizing.

Default Right

You will find Irfanview easy to use. As TechieGuy says, using a graphics program like this is the best way to go and you can make your images any size you want.

Set the size you want. Setting in pixels is best.

Then set the DPI to 72 for web use. High numbers make finer pages but use a lot of size and download slowly. That is better for printing on paper but 72 is all you need for web pages.

Also, remember when you do your html that it is best to set the same size there to avoid other problems. Example:

<img src="images/myimage.png" width="55" height="64" alt="portrait of the webmaster" />

Thanks everyone. I called the camera company this morning to ask them if I could do it within all the software that I had to download when I registered my camera. They walked me through it and I was able to resize my photos and upload them onto my website. I appreciate all the advice and I am still going to look at that site because I may be able to do more things with that than the manufacturers site. Thank again.
