Default Don't Let An Upsell Product Take You Down!

An Up-Sell product is a product you will sell at a relatively low price to entice the customer to buy a higher priced follow-up item. Very often they are no more than a glorified advert - a waste of good money.

It doesn’t have to be that way. Up-Sell can work well if you do it correctly and ethically without making false promises or producing a bad quality product.

Make sure your up-sell product is a complete product in itself. Make sure you give them a quality product which delivers real information or functionality – exactly what you TOLD them they were buying. You want to create a thirst for MORE but don’t give them so little of the story that it is of absolutely no use to them.

For Example, if the subject of your main product falls naturally into four sections, how about creating an up-sell product concentrating on the first section?

Make your own products to as high a standard as you possibly can. It will do wonders for YOUR reputation – and in time YOU will reap the rewards.

Hope this gives somebody a few ideas...

Elaine

I agree, Elaine.

It is annoying to get a "free" product, only to realize that it provides no value; it is just a teaser for a paid product.

To me, the selling point of a free product is in the value of the information it provides (i.e. pre-selling yourself, your reputation, and experience) not by leaving information out of it and using it to promote a paid product.

While I understand that it is a good marketing strategy to create teaser products/buzz, when the customer feels they are just marketed to, they may start to look somewhere else for the info.
