Default Promoting myself as a Personal Training

** Title Error Personal Trainer

So I'm moving on to my next project which is going to be a website that will promote my personal training business.

I plan on making it very user interactive and easy to use. Additionally I want to have a calendar that will let my clients self book themselves into my schedule among other cool things.

I'm going to use a blog format due to ease of use but I haven't run into any templates that have really caught my eye.

What kind of design approach should I take for this project? I'll focus a little on Seo but design will play more importance since I'm aiming for a local population.

What do you guys think? Any good website templates I should look at? Any suggestions?

That's a tough question. Have you outlined all the things you want to have on your site and prioritized them? Sounds like a lot of extra work but that may help you identify the type of design you'll need for this site. You've identified that the calendar is important so that may be something you want on the focal point of your site (perhaps the top of your left or right navigation). What else does the site need? Sometimes you just have to experiment with different designs and see what works best.

Default questions to consider

I don't want to get too far over my head here, but as I read your post I am wondering if a blog format will work very well for it. Wordpress has lots of features and a lot of folks use it for CMS and the like, but with the content you want and the fact that much of what you want needs to stay up (like the calendar, etc.), the dated, journal type setup may not be as useful as a static site. The same goes for basic informational content such as services offered.

A second thing to consider is that with interactive features such as you mention you might want to go with php right from the beginning so you will not have to convert later. php writes html to the website so really you don't have to know much php or use much to set up your site that way.

Personally if you are wanting to do some of the features you mentioned I would stear clear of Wordpress like James mentioned. If you are just looking for a CMS then for this I think I would use Drupal as it seems this would closer fit what you want. As most of the things mentioned are available in a plug in.

I was thinking of using Wordpress for CMS but I guess I'll look into Drupal or I might just go the website route.

As always Lisa and James have made me think. The good thing is the fact that I'm not particularly in a rush. So I'll have time to carefully plan my attack.
