Default Help with my idea

I have a website idea related to food and recipes.

My question is i want to make money from my website but i dont want the site to look like a flea market.(if that makes sense)

I want the site to look like a professional site, almost like the food network site. Is it possible to still make money from a site like that.

Thanks
Jack

i think you should be more specific with you subject. Try to make it as specific as possible , because that is how you create a niche. And with a lucrative niche you can say good bye to a 9-5. So I suggest using Google adwords and starting you problem statement with

How to, then the problem.

Example...how to grow plants...

But to answer your question about how the site should look, it should be a long sales copy.

Hi Jack,

Yes you can. You should narrow it down more than just food and recipes. For example you could do chocolate cake recipes or appetizer recipes. The more narrow your focus is, the easier it will be to get targeted traffic. Use tools like Google Adwords Keyword tool to research what people are searching for in this niche. As far as making money, you could probably refer and recommend kitchen related products (cookware, etc.) and earn commissions.

Just spend some time thinking about what topic you want to focus on (narrow it more) and who you want to target. Then brainstorm for the kinds of products you could refer/sell from your site. That's the place I'd start.

Default Google adwords

so i searched "how to cook" on google adwords

how to cook turkey 1 - 3 $0.55 27,100 90,500

For example would this be good numbers?

I want my website to be a guide for new culinary enthusiasts as well as a visual recipe guide for cooks.

I find many recipe sites do not have enough pictures for cooks.

I dont know if i am headed in the right direction or if i am just going in circles.

Thanks

Default Regarding your post

I believe you have your answer in the response you received from Lisa...I think you could narrow the field down even more by making the site like...desserts from the South, appetizers of the Tex-Mex area, quick snacks of the West, fast 15 minute lunches from the North, etc...kind of a Rachel Ray approach...I think you will do well with your site, and I wish you the best...William Wilson

If those are the demand numbers, then yes I would say those are good. But I don't just look at those numbers. I also do physical searches in Google and look at my competition. I look for what kinds of sites exist on this topic and then I look for ways to make my site different from what's out there. Usually I go with my gut. If I feel I have a great idea and an audience I want to focus on, I just go for it. I check Google AdWords for some ideas and a quick overview of the demand, I surf around the engines and look at potential competition and go from there.

You can if your site has an obvious theme. Flea market sites usually offer a bunch of unrelated products and have no useful, PREselling content to go with it. If you think about creating a site that provides useful information around a specific topic and make that your first priority then it will help you steer clear of that flea market theme.

Default narrowing it down

So if I were to narrow it down to hamburgers as my specific niche would that be better then just doing recipes?

How would I monetize from my site with that topic?

I checked google adwords and i'm not really sure what to make of the results?
I know there's very high advertiser competition for the word hamburger but I dont know if that is good or not?

Thanks
Jack

I would'nt go with just hamburgers, maybe something like healthier ways to cook the fast food you love, with ingredients that cut calories from the recipe, that would go well with people trying to cut back. You could use pictures that show how to cook the recipes, like you want to. I think the picture thing is a good idea! Most of the cookbooks that my parents have only have pictures that show only the finshed product, not how to get there, you may also want to include some videos of the hard to explain parts, that would go over very well. I hope I helped some and good luck!

PS:I would do what these other people recommened, looking at the competion instead of just diving right in once you have a narrowed down topic.

I just had an idea. You can decide if it's worth considering.

A site where local chefs are featured. You could visit local culinary schools and get students who are near graduation and would like the exposure. You could feature their best dishes and then offer up some sort of contest where the chef would give personal lessons (in the home, at the school, over the net through a web cam...etc). People would have to pay a fee of some sort to participate in the contest. Or maybe not a contest, but access to an online podcast featuring the chef giving step by step directions and answering questions. You make some money, the chef gets some exposure, and your visitors get a chance at having a pro show them how to prepare a good dish. Now, I don't know if you can convince chefs to do it without pay...but maybe a newbie chef would see it as a plus.
