Default Need website idea(s)

I have been searching for a website idea for about a year now. I am 25 years old, I graduated college, and I work full time. I've always loved coding and I really just want to make something that would benefit people in general, doesn't have to be a lot, and certainly doesn't have to make money. I am doing this for shear recreation. I am interested in computers, I play World of Warcraft so that might be something, I don't even know. I also like networking, and I'm pretty organised about stuff. I own two domain names, neither of which I am doing anything with, one is named Eonar and the other DRACreations. I search so much for an idea but I just can't find one that remotely interests me. Anyone have any ideas?

I think you could start on blog, just based on warcraft if you like it so much. You can provide cheat codes " if there are any", video on secrets people may not know, Tips on how to become a better player, you can also provide interviews of the creators of war craft. You can real creative. Let me know.

It's great that you're not worrying about the money. When you do this for sheer enjoyment, it doesn't feel like work, and any money you make is a bonus.

Do what you are passionate about. However, popular games get lots of fan sites, expect competiton. And many WOW users are too busy playing WOW to look at fan sites . Also, what did you major in? Perhaps you could make a site about that if it's an interesting subject.

I majored in Computer Science. I used to run a monitoring service for an automatic leveling bot that ran against TOS on WoW. People could see what their characters were doing, their stats, etc at all times. That program was discontinued due to being sued by the makers of WoW. I'm looking something I can hard code, something to tailor to the wants and needs of some people out there looking for a certain service that's free. I've contemplated many things such as Network Diagram creators, where users can dynamically map out their computer networks using icons and labels. Also, and I don't know where this came from, but a school helper, something to help students still in middle school/high school, maybe a note taking system, planners to help with time management, etc. But after thought I decided not to take either of those roads, but those are things that I'm looking at. Basically a web application, I've always loved the idea of having application like services on the web and I'd like to see it happen more.

Anyone else have any other suggestions? I've really been stuck on this and it'd be nice to finally figure out what I wanted to do. I just need that last push.

I'm kinda on that same road, currently finishing up Computer Science degree and not sure at all what I want to do either for a job OR for fun. But I recently did for a project for school a website for a Camp I used to work at, for them to be able to sell their camp shirts and hats and stuff online and not just at the camp.

So perhaps there is a company that you really like, or a company of a friend that doesn't have a good web page, or could use some kind of web app that would service their company.

Maybe?

I was looking around, for example my father owns a web hosting business. He offered to pay me to fully rewrite his site. Thing is, I don't really like the commitment, I mean I have my job which I supply fully tested webapps tailored to exact specs and I don't really want it to be like work outside of the office. Especially any companies that do transactions online, I always have to have a script tested, running and safe before I release it and I would feel compelled to script security classes up the wall to make it safe.

I need a time filler website. Back in the day when I was younger I would stay up some nights when there was nothing to do and write a script to make something I do everyday automated and simple. I just want to do that for other people now, you know, share the skills that I have acquired for other people. And seriously it doesn't need to make money, I have a well paying job and my bandwidth for my dedicated machine is more than covered. I'm just stuck on the idea phase and it's killing me.

Perhaps some kind of exchange site? Um...I know there are just a few of these out there already, but perhaps a cooler site to trade your Gift Cards in for ones you actually want or cold hard cash.

Or...maybe some kind of platform for other developers to share and/or trade their apps?

Default Ideas

Ideas are like Gold Bullion...I want to keep my chest of ideas to myself, lol!

Seriously though, you may just be trying to hard. I always find that it's the time that I least expect something to happen that it does. Why not Google around the web at various sites...I think there is some kind of random search and see what interests you.

For instance I do a lot of military research. Sometimes, while searching around the net, I see something that peaks my curiosity and off I go to investigate. It doesn't always have to be military related. It's kind of like a treasure hunt, and I enjoy it immensely.

Another thing I do is visit Wikipedia. Sometimes I just go there and type the first thing that comes to mind and see what comes up. There is always a ton of links to various other places of interest.

I know this doesn't answer your direct question, but hope it helps your search, in some small way...Good Luck with your idea, whatever it may be

PS: I just thought of something...I am a senior and we seniors are always seeking out a relative easy site, to learn different things without all the TechTalk. There's a fella on here who runs Window Talk...check out his site, perhaps it will turn on the light!

Is great to hear that u dont do all these for money, i would suggest u search for a charity type of organisation which they may need your expertise to help them carry out a great job to help ppl.

I have a few ideas now of what I want to do. Sgtmac I think you are right, I was just trying to hard and looking above and beyond. I have an idea for a new WoW database site, if any of you play you'll know what type of site I'm talking about. Also, I've always wanted to make a blog type website, so I think I'll make one about rock-climbing, found a cool template and my buddies and I are always climbing, good place to post pictures and first ascents.

Thanks for your help guys.
