    Default Should I use wordpress?

    So my entire website is coded by hand.
    Though, I find myself changing the layout more than adding articles.

    Recently, I took down my entire layout, which was made of images and looked GREAT, and simplified the site down to simple css and colors. I did this because the images were causing my site to load in around 20 seconds or longer and I don't have the funds to pay for a CDN.

    I also realize, the more articles that I write, it would be easier to write articles if I created a php and mysql database where I could login, type and upload and image, as it would create a page for me. As now, I have to copy each page and input all text fields individually, such as the title, the content, the directory tree etc.

    I'm reading about wordpress and wondering if this will make managing my site way easier?
    I don't know how reliable wordpress is. I've read about having your account easily hacked. I would also hate to have my website solely hosted by someone else's program and not my own.

    What i'm looking for is something where I can login, write an article, upload an image for my article, click post and bam, it's up and running.
    I would like to have my website entirely customizable with css, html, php, etc etc.
    I'm also wanting the image that I upload to be put where I want it to be put.

    Is this all possible with wordpress? Should I switch to wordpress or should I stick to coding on my own?

    Thanks for the input

    Wordpress is for you! Honestly, Wordpress is ALL I use. If you already do web design, you can go to Wordpress Codex and learn about how to design your own theme. If not, there are several websites that have themes you can download and customize to your liking.

    It sounds as if Wordpress is the solution for you. However, if you're still unsure why don't you install a trial blog on a folder in your website and play around with Wordpress say for a week to get the feel for it and see what it can do for you.

    If you need suggestions on what plugins you need, just ask here on the forum.

    Thanks for the replies, I gave wordpress a shot last night but didn't have enough time to fully look into it. I think it will help with what I need, if it offers what I think it does.
    Thanks again for answers

    The answer for you is yes....you should use wordpress.

    With regard to your concerns:

    There are ways to make wordpress so it is not as easily hacked - plus you can backup your site so if it is hacked, you'll have a backup.

    You can also host wordpress on your own server.

    Hope that helps.

    Hi, it sounds as if Wordpress would be good for you, especially if as floridaguy suggests, you host it on your own server. I have done this with mine and have no troubles - as yet anyway.

    I am new to the world of website building and had heard a lot about wordpress, when a friend gave me domain space for my site, it just so happened he had installed wordpress. I absolutely love it! It is very easy to navigate and use, for a rookie such as myself. And it is my understanding that it is ALSO perfect for someone who knows the ins and outs of building a website. So I agree that wordpress should be perfect for you!

    So I transferred my entire website into a new folder I named '_before', I installed wordpress and a theme I thought to match the layout of my current site, and I began the coding.

    At first, I really didn't enjoy unscrambling the css and other coding of the wordpress theme I installed, but after deleting every tab and space in the world, I was able to redesign the entire layout to how I wanted it, as well as add great featured that would've taken ages to create on my own.

    I think wordpress makes content management very easy. I still don't enjoy using a script created by someone else, but.. money or stress, which is better? I can finally work on some articles for my website instead of stressing about it.

    WordPress is a great way to go, it's easy to use and the one click updating is by far a plus when it comes to setting up and maintaining a website. Just keep in mind if your going to host it your self, you will want to go to use the WordPress ORG version not the COM version, which is hosted by WordPress, but restrictive on what you can do.

    A note on wordpress for any web developer who might stuck in the same choice as I was.
    I've noticed that wordpress is VERY restrictive on how you code things. It's still possible.. but there are a lot of tweaks that must be applied to your coding that you wouldn't normally have to do.

    There are simply problems with wordpress where a space between your coding will cause the code to be unread.
    For example:

    <p>

    information goes here.
    </p>

    The space between <p> and your information will 90% of the time cause your text to be unformatted.

    Just letting others know in case they decided to switch to wordpress.
    I still enjoy how easy it makes writing and managing articles, but it can be a pain for programming sometimes.

    Do you use Windows? Install http://www.instantwp.com on your computer and play around with it. I think you'll love it once you learn how to use it.
