Suggestions on strategy for my web site promoting my sprinkler service biz.
Hi folks, I want to plan my strategy for my web site. The purpose of the site would be to promote my sprinkler service biz in hopes of getting customers. Here is a little info for you.
1. I allready have the host and domain name.
2. I plan to use wordpress.
3. I have allready built several sites but never really planned it out well first.
Any suggestions for reading and anything would be appreciated.
Thanks.

I needed some help locating valves in my yard this past year and it was a struggle to find a sprinkler repair guy. The ones I called never called back and seemed to do it as a side business. And I don't recall seeing any good websites in my search. Since these repair businesses are typically 100% local, I'd first set up the site, write a few articles on common sprinkler problems and make sure it has local keywords like the names of the towns you cover, and then use some social media to link to it (like Twitter and Facebook). Also, visit the local supply sprinkler store and get friendly with the counter people. I needed a guy who had one of those electronic sniffers and evidently, not every sprinkler repair guy has one. I found my guy by calling the supply store and asking for a repair service that owned the electronic sniffer that would find my valve boxes (which had never been serviced in 20 years).
After your site is operational, it wouldn't hurt if you got some clients who like you to review your business on Yelp or Angie's List.

There are lots of things to help.
It should be relatively easy to get a high ranking site; getting business is a little trickier but doable.
To get the site to rank well think about what people will search for and put those phrases prominently on the home page. My initial guess is that some might be sprinkler installation, sprinkler repair and the like.
Be sure to include your city name and county. People will almost always put one or the other in their search when they want a local business. Be sure to include these in the header as well as in the titles, etc. In the header make sure you are imposing text in a tag, not an image of the name, or it will not get SEO value.
Be sure these keywords appear several times on the page and in the last paragraph. For example, "In city (county, state) you will find that companyname is your best source for dependable and speedy sprinkler installation and repair. We would appreciate an opportunity to help you soon."
Lee makes some good suggestions about content. One thing I would emphasize is that you make contact information very prominent. We are living in a different world these days. People communicate in different ways. You have to do all of them in your business and keep up with them carefully.
Listen for text messages on your cell phone. Have your computer fixed to give a loud and clear sound when an email comes in. And have someone respond to them it quickly.
On your site you need to display these contact methods prominently and ASK PEOPLE TO CONTACT YOU. Don't just put the information on a contact page. Do that, too, but display them several times on the home page. People are in a mood to contact you when they come to your page. They need to find this information quickly. I am amazed at how many sites frustrate people by making it so hard to even find a telephone number.
