Default New idea, need opinions :)

Hey, i just got an idea for a new website, i'm just not sure yet how to approach it yet, and i don't know if it should be a blog or website yet.

    My idea is following:

I want to create a website about global warming. More specifically about what people can do in their own lives as an individual to help prevent global warming.
It could be topics like what you can change in your house, what you could buy, what habits to change and different points of view which maybe could change peoples mindset.

So what do you guys think ?

And maybe any ideas how to approach this?

    - Emiel

I would say that depends on how envolved you wan to be into it.

Blog - Having to make a post on a regular basis and keeping the content fresh, so on and so on

Website - Develop and setup, making changes only when needed.

Personally I like the idea of doing both, develop a webiste with the information you're providing and adding a blog link for the information you are putting out on a regular basis.

Speaking as a Global Warming critic, I would like to see a site that actually shows the science that is behind it rather than the BS Press that is spreading the lies, rumor and hear-say about it.

I do believe that the atmosphere is getting warmer, as it has been doing for the last 10,000 years. However, I don't believe that mankind is responsible for it. That having been said, show me the articles written by the scientists in the Science Journals from both sides of the issue and perhaps I will change my mind on it.

I can't help but think that there are others out there like me who don't believe it but do have an open enough mind to look at the facts.

For the record, I do think that reducing the pollution that we are pumping out every day into our environment on this spec of cosmic dust we are riding through the universe is a great idea. I remember days in the 70's in Los Angeles when we could not go outside to play because our lungs hurt from the smog...

If you do the site properly, it could go over well. If you do it as a platform to try to indoctrinate or otherwise force people to change their minds, you can plan on it failing miserably.

    Hope this helps,
    Ron

    Hey Ron

Well i think that my idea could be used by you to, cause my intention is not to make people believe/convince global warming exists.

I would rather say that my site could help people to treat the environment in a better way and cause less pollution.
As you say yourself you don't believe in global warming, but you do want to reduce pollution and be better to the environment.

So people could read the content of my side, but the reason for them to do it does not have to be the same as mine. People could read it because they want pollute less, prevent global warming, or maybe just save some cash when they reduce their energy usage.

But thank you for posting, this surely something to think about and take into consideration

mcd3inc, what do you think would work best, to start with the blog or website.

Which one is easier to generate traffic with, which later then can be used to direct traffic to the blog/website?

I know that global warming and green websites are a hot topic today. That will make it a high source of traffic if you can get past the loads of competitors. There are many sites that already cover things like this so you need to find something that would make your site unique.

Try to make your site interactive, offer nice stuff like a global warming printable checklist that you can put up on your fridge, or free printable material that parents can give to kids to help explain to them how to treat the environment, Just a thought!

It's a good idea if you have passion to write on the topic but bear in mind that it's a pretty competitive niche and I think there are already loads of website already covering on the same issue. However, if you intention is purely to express your ideas, then why not?

This niche is ultra competitive. It is a hot topic right now and everyone is trying to jump on the green bandwagon.

However, what would bother me is that this is a topic that has been latched onto by governments worldwide. Not only will you be competing with all the privately run websites, you will be in direct competition with public service websites operated by global governments. Not to mention the plethora of "green" charities and organisations.

If you have ideas that will make you more useful than all these sites, then go for it!
    Happy to help

@EmielB, it would be best to present this as a blog site since you'll be regularly updating it based on whatever topics you want to talk about..
