Default Creating a downloadable file??

Thanks again everyone for putting up with all of my questions. I am really learning as I go and am getting a lot of help moving forward her.

I would like to create some camping packing checklists for my site in two forms....one right on the site, and then in a downloadable format for people to use when they are packing if they like.

Instead of writing pages tonight like I originally planned, I have spent hours now trying to figure out how to do this.

What I have come up with so far is this:

I found a Microsoft Add-on to download...Save as PDF or XPS.

So I am figuring that I download this Add-on, create the checklists in Word, and then save as PDF (I don't know anything about XPS), then upload to SBI.

Is this the best way to do this???

Thanks.

Hey Jewel,

You can simply upload the word document to your server then link to it. When the user clicks on it their browser will ask them what they want to do with it. They can open the word document with microsoft word then save it to their computer right from word.
You can also place a simple text document (made with wordpad or something similar on your computer) into a zip folder and upload that to your server and link to it. When your user clicks on that link they will be prompted to save the zip folder.
You can also put both (word format and txt) into the zip folder so they can have the option of which to use.
Pdf's are fine for very large format documents but for something such as a checklist it is kind of a system hog.

Hope that helps.

I am back.

Apparently I can't upload the Word document to SBI, which is my server.

I can upload PDF or text.

So back to the Microsoft Add-on...does anybody have any experience with it? From the Microsoft description it appears that I can save the Word document to a pdf format and it is a free download for me since I own the Word software.

I guess I could just create the file in a text document (but then the little blocks or bullets for the checklist don't show, right)...and also put the list online and have instructions on how to just block copy paste the list to their own processor...is that a better option?

Hey Jewel,

That's correct, the bullets will not show up in a text document.
Are you able to upload regular zip files? You can place anything you want inside a zip file including the word document.
The copy and paste instructions on the page would also be a viable option.
The only other thing I can think of is having another server onto which you can upload anything you want then you can just link to it from your SBI site.
I can't help you with the pdf converter. I personally don't like pdf's so I may be a bit biased.
