Default Newbie Help Please: Selecting part of an image as a link

I have used an image I created in gimp as my header...however I want to use part of as my home button...basically I just want to select a section of the image to use as a link...I have seen that this is possible (in JavaScript I think) but I cant remember where. If someone could tell me how to do this or point me to a tutorial it will be much appreciated.

Thanks to anyone that helps.

Well one way to do it would be to create that section of the header as a separate file and wrap a link around the separate image. You would put the full header image as a background and insert the linked image over the top.

Another way is with an image map. See here for the code explanation and a working example:

Code:
http://www.w3schools.com/TAGS/tag_map.asp
If you click the "Try it yourself" button, you will see a demo, as well as an editor that will let you play around with the image map and see the results.

Hope this helps
