eBay "schools," drop-shipping, and market research
Hey folks, I'm so glad I found this site. I've been watching Lisa's videos on YouTube, and she seems really just to want to help people. That's such a great service. I now have confidence that I can do this!
My question: I'm currently in communication with a really high pressure company called Internet Auction Solutions. They sell eBay training, website creation, directory submission, a huge list of drop-shippers, and, the most enticing thing to me, software that tracks eBay's market research statistics. The information in this software is apparently secret, not available to the public or even eBay employees. They claim to be one of only 3 companies privy to this information, licensed by eBay. I've been to a lot of websites with discussion forums that call this place a scam and so forth. Now, I know dissatisfied customers for these types of places are a lot of times just lazy, not willing to do the work the place requires. I'm not lazy. But that's the thing...a lot of "How to succeed on eBay" info is available for free online! The only real selling point these people have is that software. The second selling point is their drop-shipper list. Now, I found website called "DropShippingSucks.com" and he makes compelling arguments as to why drop-shipping doesn't work. But it must work, otherwise people wouldn't use it, right?? I was wondering if anyone has ever heard of or actually used this company. They seem to be reputable, accredited by the BBB with very few complaints (and the few complaints are all resolved). But $6,500 is a lot of money! Anyone? Anyone? Thanks a lot!

If it sounds like a scam then there is a fair chance it probably is.
There are many sites on the internet selling "get rich quick schemes" . The only people who get rich quick are the people who sell these schemes.
If the product is so good why do they need to exert "really high pressure" to sell their product. A quick google search shows a lot of links to dissatisfied customers. I agree there is a always a percentage dissatisfied with any product but if it were that good there would be at least as many if not more singing it's praises.
Again checking on google their claim to have special access to ebay's market research statistics way also be unfounded.
As for dropshipping I've heard good and bad reports about it. Given the right products from the right source it can be effective, but the guys who make the most money are the ones who sell the lists of dropshippers.
I don't know the criteria for being accepted for membership of the BBB but here, in the UK, there are similar organistions that will accept almost anyone as long as they pay the appropriate fees. They are only removed from the organisation if there are too many complaints about them.
So all in all I suggest you keep your $6,500 safely in your bank.
Regards
Bob

I used to use drop shipper but not any more
Drop shipping is a good concept, but too many eBay sellers are using the same source. That means too much competition. A lot of people ended up losing listing fee. That is why drop shipping has a bad reputation.
I used to join one drop shipping site. It was not bad but take too much time. There are thousand of products and you have to do research on them to find one which is profitable. I did find a few. One of them is a grandfather clock. However, sometimes, it is out of stock before you know. If you sold the item on eBay then it is out of stock, you have to explain and apologize. Sometimes the buyer will be angry and give you a negtive feedback......
There are better ways to find profitable products selling on eBay. You need to be more creative. If everyone is looking for drop shipping, why waste your time to do the same thing and compete with these people? Plus you have to pay a monthly fee.
I have wrote an eBook talking about making money on eBay. I listed 7 methods in the book. One of them is FREE and I listed on my website. I did not recommend any of these drop shipping websites. You are welcome to take a look at my website. [link removed. when you are allowed to add a signature, you are free to add your site to your sig file in the UserCP. Until then, please no link drops to your own site in threads. Have to do that to keep self promotion under control. Thank you!! ]
If you have any qustions, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Thanks.

Don't Waste Your Money
James,
I've made some decent money from selling items on eBay and I'm not a PowerSeller. I sold customized items like t-shirts and sneakers. I also purchased items at wholesale prices and sold them individually finding more success this way than using a drop shipping company.
Like someone else mentioned in their post, the drop shipping companies advertise heavily because they want to move their products as quickly as possible. So you have many people online selling the same thing. You may have problems with drop shippers (like I did) sending out incorrect products to customers. The only person who will be affected by this is you if people leave negative feedback since you don't actually see the product so you don't know what gets shipped.
If you want to learn more about effectively selling on eBay I suggest reading through the many pages of information eBay has on their site. If you feel like that's not enough information, you can always go to your local bookstore and pick up books on eBay, selling online, and so on.
Whatever you decide, make sure you include offline promotions in your marketing strategy to drive traffic to your site.
Hope that helps!

What do you want to sell?
JamesLJ,
What are you looking to sell on ebay? Are you hoping that you will find the hot item in that company's research data?
I have been selling successfully on eBay for 12 years. The last five years I have operated an eBay consignment business from my house. I sell for others on a commission basis, but I also dropship. The key to dropshipping obviously is finding the right source/items.
I have found that the best products are dropshipped either for free or next to nothing. Think about it. You are spending the time and money to advertise and sell another persons products. They are basically selling to you wholesale and then shipping the item. Paying a huge "dropship" fee makes no sense to me. I have also belonged to the dropship clubs. True they have millions of items to sell, but unless you have the time to take a good look at every one of those items, chances are there are hundreds of the same item online and every one has slashed the price so low they are lucky to be making anything after fees. The clubs charge like $20 a month and they are simply the middle man. Avoid them if you can. Go direct to the source.
My advice would be this....SAVE your $6500. There are other companies that offer this data at a much more reasonable rate. Pick a niche that you are passionate about to sell in. (Unless it's overloaded on eBay) If you think that you could make some money in this niche, search online for dropshippers, distributors, and wholesalers. Sometimes you can buy product in low numbers or even some distributors will dropship.
Your money is best served elsewhere.

Hi James,
I know a fantastic forum I use which can point you in a much more constructive (and cash-efficient!) path. Take a look at http://www.thewholesaleforums.co.uk/forum/ and start asking questions. You've got people there who really know their stuff.
One eBay adviser I know is a guy called Andy Minalto. He has produced a number of affordable products on selling on eBay - the best value package he offers is a DVD boxset called Easy Auction Business which also comes with lifetime access to his 'Spicy Auction Templates' members-only website. Google it - and don't waste your money on something like that! What's great is that apart from the free tips and techniques, Andy's products don't cost more than $100.
