Get Open Office, it's free and it makes pdf's. Actually my adobe acrobat broke recently and I've been using Open Office to make my pdf files.

Default Open Office

I have been using open office for a little over a year now and have had a great time with it. It is really easy to use and the free price tag is always an added bonus.

I use open office too, but I never created an ebook. I know how to make the pdf files, but is there something else I should know to make an ebook or is creating the pdf file enough.

Do I have to protect the text (pdf) against copying somehow?

Yes nobi, you should always protect your content, I mean, if you are selling it.

You could password protect your e-book, but then you could end up spending all your time with support. People can find their password, they don't know it, it doesn't work, ect. 99% of those selling ebooks do NOT password protect their ebooks for that very reason. Course it's up to you. You will have more support issues if you password the file, that is for sure.

At the very least you should protect the download page, not make it so any one can download it. Most scripts used to sell ebooks these days handle that for you.

In the end, if some one wants to rip off your ebook or pirate it, they will figure out a way.

but if you put in with clickbank they can't pirate it. And when you don't password protect it but leave it as it is, just pdf. That should be enough don't you reckon? If they buy it and copy it at home. This can't be stopped anyway...

Huh? They can get it easier with CB, than most other sites because CB requires a static download page. Many scripts used to automate the selling have timed links, like can only be downloaded only a certain number of times, in some many hours, the links expire, ect.

Best way is to use a script like I mentioned and not worry about it. All you can do. You can have all kinds of locks on your house, but if some one really wants to get in, they will.

I second this. You can only do so much. In the end, the hackers get what they want and all you can do is take the precautionary steps to protect yourself and hope for the best.
