Patience, how much?
Have you ever heard about the woman who prayed to learn more patience and God answered her prayer by giving her twelve children?
I wonder if I am the only one that builds a site and then wonders and checks constantly to see when it gets indexed, then when it starts rising in search engines and then constantly checking daily traffic? Probably not, but when working hard and being result oriented sometimes pushes to want it now.
I was hoping maybe someone could give some personal examples or timeliness that would include after the initial launch of a new site the time they estimate it took to get indexed, found in search engines and at what rate their traffic grew?
Thanks,

Ok, I realize I am replying to my own post, but... here is an example:
It took two weeks for Google to find and index the new website. It took another couple of weeks to start determining keywords. Then another couple weeks for some organic traffic to start trickling in.
Since my new site is only a few months old, this is where I am at. It would be interesting to know if this is average, good or poor.
On the outside, DMOZ is a nothing yet, No other search engine has any organic traffic. The site ranks first page for a couple 3 length keyword searches. One is "Best My Keyword" with my keyword being what I want to rank for, but not the 3 words hardly anyone types which makes me nervous on the keywords I choose.
It would be really sweet to have some measurable benchmarks in site development and promotion. But. maybe that would make it to easy.

A new movie in the works...
Sounds like a new movie in the works..."The Good, the Bad and the Meaningless!"
It is common for sites to come and go on google for a period of time. I've had one site on page one for a couple of key words very early, then disappear, then reappear, then disappear, and now I am back (time has varied from weeks to months). And I haven't done any seo, not even taken time to work on my titles and descriptions! Not yet, but coming soon.
It probably doesn't mean anything to know what others have done. Good or bad, they are all meaningless to anyone else's experience.
Enjoy what you like when you see it. Imagine that it is the best possible for your kind of site. Ignore it when you don't like it (after all it is meaningless, right).

My first and second website got indexed after about three weeks, and my third site that I'm working on now has not gotten indexed, after 2 weeks of waiting I'm hoping to be in google and yahoo soon!

Hi Bill,
I am always very leery of giving people specific information about my timeline because people have a tendency to use my info as a benchmark or compare their progress with mine. This can be very misleading because times have changed. I could tell you exactly how long it took me to start getting traffic in Google, but the problem is that was seven years ago and things have changed and they keep changing all the time... especially search technology.
So, there is nothing wrong with being curious about others' success. Just be careful how you process the information. If 10 people reply and tell you it took them two years to get steady traffic from Google, that may sway you into thinking one way. But maybe they weren't marketing their site effectively. Maybe it will only take you 3 months.
And let's say it takes your site 6 weeks to get indexed when it took someone else 3. Does it mean it's poor? Average? I'm not sure we can confirm that based on a few replies. There are just always so many variables involved.
Sorry to ramble... I just always caution people to be careful with how they absorb information like this. If you're just curious... that's fine but don't use for comparisons with your progress.

I appreciate the cautious reply. The challenge really is having patience I think. I've never worked so hard on a site without knowing when (and maybe if) I'll get paid for it.
When I saw that I had a few first page keyword search results that were 3 words long being (best my keywords) I was pumped, until I saw that only 10 organics were coming in a day.
So, I guess it is good news that it is moving forward. But no crystal ball where it will end up. I think our society is a results now one and it makes slow but steady drag on.
Thanks,

Seriously, depending on the market you are in, you should be able to get traffic coming o your site in 30 days. It's not so much a matter of patience as it is doing a number of things consistently each day such as building backlinks to your site, submitting articles to the top article directories and getting your site in a few paid directories. If you do these things consistently then patience will come easy.

Just exercising patience is not the one and the only thing that you can do, you need to make sure the fact that you are getting links from reputed sites. One can not wait for an infinite period of time. You need to make sure that you are doing enough for ensuring better future for your website.

Patience and Persistent must always work together. Try other methods if the current one is not bringing more results. As the saying goes "Try and try until you succeed."

Patience is necessary for promoting your website. Use SEO for getting better traffic for your website. But don't stop your work if you are not successful very soon. All come with patience.

This is a good point. I have to admit I check my AdSense everyday.
I used to check my traffic everyday for both of my sites but decided it is better to check every week or so.

I used to check my site to see the traffic every day. But actually that's not a recommended way for most of the time you may get frustrated.
Now, after I get a new site launched and after a little promotion, it will takes about one day to get indexed. After that, the traffic will increase rather slowly. So I will keep on doing seo and check my new site's traffic once per two weeks. The result will usually be encouraging.
