Default How to set up a permanent redirect?

I received the following message as I had my website surveyed:

"Search engines may think www.detroitmichiganmagician.com and detroitmichiganmagician.com are two different sites. You should set up a permanent redirect (technically called a "301 redirect") between these sites. Once you do that, you will get full search engine credit for your work on these sites."

What procedure do I go thru to set up a permanent redirect between both sites?

Your web host should have a procedure for this. Do you use cPanel to manage your web site? You can create redirects with it.

That is a good way to solve the problem of redirecting single files without affecting the whole website, thanks for sharing.

Create a .htaccess file (Just open notepad and create a file and save as filename .htaccess also select save as file type ALL Files. The place the following code in the file one line for each redirect.

Code:
redirect 301 /oldpage.html http://www.yourdomain.com/newpage.html
basically the first part tells the search engines its a redirect, the second part is where the old page is and the third part is the URL that the search engines should be redirected to.

Hope this helps.
