so it looks like google and msn has index my site now (picmage). So im happy about that. I submitted my site to dmoz but im waiting for them to list it. However, im skeptical about that they will..lol. Also, as ppcFanatic mentioned, adding unique features to the site is very important. Today i added a image resizing tool. Another cool tool im working on is image conversion, where the user be able to convert their images from one format to the another. At the same time, im looking for places like forums, sites where people can use my tool and be helpful to them.

Great! MSN is usually the first engine to pick you up.

Yeah I'm still waiting for DMOZ to index this forum. I'm not holding my breath, though. But I did go ahead and submit to Yahoo's paid directory. I figure it's a tax write-off and plus it's a great inbound link for Google to see... especially since I just made these forum threads SEO friendly. So we'll see.

i would love to know how much traffic you will get from yahoo directory to this forums and also how much weightage google will give you for having a link in yahoo directory. I always wonder, if paid inclusion directories are worth it. If yea, i will give it a try to but probably not yahoo because $299 way too much.

I won't get a lot traffic from the Yahoo directory itself because no one visits that section of Yahoo. My point in paying is to get a high-quality link pointing to me and help me get indexed in Google faster.

Will it help? It's really hard to tell but I usually tell folks (especially if you're new) not to bother with a Yahoo listing. But I must admit I have paid to have all my sites indexed there. Hard to really tell how much of a difference it makes. I had some leftover money after advertising last month so I'd rather put it there than giving it to Uncle Sam for my estimated taxes. LOL

But I do get a decent amount of traffic to my SBI! site from the actual Yahoo directory page I'm listed on. I think because fitness is not as competitive as web hosting for example. So it also depends on what category your website falls in. I have to admit, it is a bit of a crap shoot but it's a risk I'm willing to take.

i have had a little bit of traffic submitting link to google for free i get at least 100 visitors a day now and its pretty steady i can guarantee that i get 70 people a day without doubt.

How would these directories get your url out to people? if it just goes into their directory then you wont get anywere because not many people would search directories.

There are several factors that Google uses to decide where to rank your site for certain keywords.

1) Number of Quality Inbound Links
2) Body Content
3) Number of pages
etc... etc.

Having a quality link like the Yahoo Directory tells Google that my page is "serious" and once it starts getting traffic it may help my overall rank for different keywords. (I strongly emphasize "MAY")

It's not about these directories getting your URL out to people because that's not what they do. It's about building quality inbound links. I've gotten nice traffic without the Yahoo directory too but it never hurts to keep building quality inbound links. It may give you an even better boost in the long run.

That's why a forum like this is invaluable. I don't post a lot but I stop by to read everyday. The average new person would not know this stuff. I can imagine myself thinking I am paying $299 for a load of traffic when that's not the case. Of course Yahoo doesn't explain any of this because they want your money. I've learned so much from you folks.

so the more quality inbound links you have the higher you are going to rank in google index?

Also, i have seen many sites with high PR but only have 2 or 3 inbound links. One site i saw had a google PR of 5. When i checked alexa for its inbound links, the site only had 3 inbound links from other sites? So is google PR and inbound links have anything in common? What does it mean to have a good google PR?
