Default If you had a $500 budget to spend

If you had a $500 budget to spend on promoting a new adsense based website, where would you spend it to promote or drive traffic? Keep in mind this is not a product site, but is an information site with helpful content with adsense available for your visitor.

Thanks,

Bill the Builder

1) Research relevant keywords and buy some long tail (very cheap keywords) on a PPC network and set a low daily budget.

2) Buy a good camera and editing software to make tutorial videos. (The power of video is still underrated and underutilized)

That's really the only thing I'd spend money on in the beginning. I'd spend the rest of the time learning about SEO, marketing, etc. There's so many free ways to get traffic to your site through social networking sites, etc. that you really shouldn't have to spend a lot of money up front if you develop a solid strategy and identify your target audience (especially for a content/affiliate site)

Its better to spend money learning about seo, ppc, or general marketing. Why? Having money and no knowledge leads to failure. First you must understand fully or partially what your getting into. Once you have done so, you can make more intelligent decisions on how to reach the goals you set for yourself.

Holla at your BoY if you need more info!

My SEO knowledge, in regard to the site itself and search engine is strong. My weakest area is the social networking links. I participate here because I am impressed with Lisa, her site and her approach (honestly, I am not trying to suck up here). She has taken a business approach to a passion and made it career. By participating I feel I am giving something back.

I am on facebook, but only because I got dragged on. I sometimes post photos of wildlife from my automated deer cam. But, I really don't care what people are having for breakfast or waking up with hangovers. Plus, this is not the site I want to promote to friends, because it is a revenue generating site not an interest site like my fishing one.

I do need research the social networking more. I need more of a social back linking 101 knowledge. I'll do a search after this post.

I love Lisa's videos and want to do some also on my topic. I do have editing software and a new camera, since we converted all 8mm to DVD's. I thought, I should have a more established searchable site before do this? No? The same thought was with article submission. Google and Bing have indexed, but not found in top 100 searches. Yahoo does not know I exist (it is submitted).

Not that I have money to burn, but after researching my competition, the C in PPC. I noticed they had 300-400 incoming links. Many were purchased directories ranging in price from $9.99 - $29.99 and Yahoo. However, I truly respect your opinion and am looking for direction.

Thanks,

Once content hits 40 pages, I'll try a site review.
