Arrow a popular website as part of your domain?

hey everybody,

i have a simple question... i went to a website and clicked on a link within the his blog... it was something like iStockphoto.com... but the weird thing is, was that his website domain was still in the url with a folder like /photos/ attached. does this mean he owns the site or does it mean he's getting a type of commission for having it as a link on his website? i hope that makes sense. any questions about this question let me know.

thanks!!

So the link to the external site still had his domain included?

For example, I have an affiliate redirect setup for most of my affiliate links because it's easier to manage and keep track of them. Let's say I have a link to amazon using my affiliate link. I create a folder on my domain called amazon and inside that folder I create an index.html with a meta refresh to the affiliate url. So 2createawebsite.com/amazon redirects to my amazon affiliate link.

Is that what you mean?

hey Lisa,
thanks alot for responding... that's exactly it... so you would need to be an affiliate for that to happen? it was just weird seeing it for the first time cause i know that guy couldn't have owned that photo website. so basically, you would need to be an affiliate for it to show up under your domain name?

also, Lisa, how do you create a 'meta refresh'?

I'm not sure if we're on the same page, though. You can create folders on your own domain and have them redirect to any site. You don't need to be an affiliate to set this up.

OR...

Did the merchant company have HIS domain in the URL?

For example...

amazon.com/2createawebsite is different than

2createawebsite.com/amazon

In the first link, amazon has created my affiliate URL based on the ID I chose when I joined the affiliate program. That link is hosted on amazon's site.

In the 2nd link, that's the redirect I was talking about earlier you can setup yourself. Some people do it to hide their affiliate links or to make them easier to manage and keep track of.

Just making sure I'm understanding which format you saw.

I think the blog was using iframe tags. Like <iframe src="http://URL"></iframe> which embeds the URL in the calling page. I think the iframe tag should be removed from the standard it's very annoying especially when forums allow it to be used. You end up with someone else's complete site sitting where it wasn't intended to be and most people\organisations would hate their sites being used like that, i know i would.
