IMO, when doing social bookmarking, after creating your account, try to build a reputation in your chosen niche first and then start to interact with other members. Remember to export the personal bookmarks that you have to that particular website.

And always make sure that your tags are organized. Keep everything simple. Make it easy for users to locate you through your bookmarks.
