Default wikipedia?????

I'm not sure if this a light bulb moment or not but has anyone tried putting a link to their site on Wikipedia? I know you can edit the info on there.

For instance, if you have a website/blog on Dalmatians and you go to Wikipedia and edit the reference section and put in your link as a site dedicated to Dalmatians.

Has anyone tried it?

I have to be honest, I don't browse Wikipedia much, other than to get a definition for something when the site comes up in Google. But I do remember reading an ezine once about a guy creating a profile in Wikipedia and using that to promote his site. He was saying you have to be very careful about how you go about this because it's easy to get your info deleted if it looks like spam.

I think it's like anything else, if you build up a reputable profile by submitting quality information on a regular basis, you can get your site noticed by viewers reading your profile.

Interesting topic, though. I don't know much about this so it would be interesting to know if anyone else has tried this.

I have thought about it, but have yet to try it. I am also curious if someone has done it and if it was successful.

I have browsed wikipedia for some of the more popular blogs/bloggers and they appear in there.

Default case studies

I agree with Lisa on this one. I think careful consideration should be given to your entry before you start in order to avoid being removed for pure marketing.

If you can make your entry revolve around a case study, I think you'd have a better chance at making this work.

I have tryed this, you cannot add a link to there 'external links' or 'reference' sections until you have provided some useful content, the site is heavily moderated so every step you make or touch is carefully tracked. So make sure you know what your putting down and wether its completely correct and legit.

Wikipedia is a very good way in getting traffic as thousands of people visit it everyday something to look into if uve got the time, i get about 3 - 6 visitors a day from wikipedia so it all adds up eventually.

Probably apply to certain niche, it won't be easily seen if it is too crowded. Anyway, links in wikipedia does not help search engine ranking.

Yeh this seems like a great idea to do and could make brilliant promotion but not sure on all of wikipedias rules.
