Maybe make a video advertising it and put it on youtube. Or make a video that shows off what kind of stuff is in your site, but don't give it all away so it makes people want to join. Or maybe just tell some of your friends and tell them to pass it on. Post your site on a forum that you are well known for going on. Talk to people that you have helped out and see if they will check out your website. There are many ways, you just have to find the right way for you.

I mainly promote it at forums with forum postings and my signature links.

Promote your website
I'm working on the article route mostly. There is also comments on other folks blogs for backlinks as long as the comments are relevent to that blog.
I am thinking of trying Stumbleupon.com and the "I like this" click. Now I just have to get my friends and family to click it to my blogs.
Has anyone had any luck with free ads to craigslist?

hi, mainly i think that social bookmarking is the stuff you need to work on. as this is the modern trend and it is on top. lots of people lots of links and comments i.e. lots of traffic and higher PR. but still basic optimization is the key not to loose what you gained in SB...

Just come back again with yahoo answers results, i get quite a few hits a day from yahoo answers from 5 or 6 specific questions I have answered where my answer was picked as the best. Now with those being indexed by google I get the chance of getting another click through.
