Default Check competitors Web Stats

Is any one here aware of any tool or site were we can check website stats of any specific domain ?

As doing so can help everyone promote their site in a better way.

Any ideas and suggestions ?

Not unless they have their visitor trackers like Statcounter set to public.
Being able to view the stats of any given site would cause too many privacy issues so I doubt they exist.

well actually I think you can, try visiting alexa.com and using the compare tool
where you can compare stats of your site with other sites.

I think Alexa can provide you some idea but you cannot trust much on alexa stats. For a better analysis you need consider other factors as well.

1) Page Rank
2)No Of Incoming Links
3)Alexa Ranking
4) Search engine position for targeted keywords

take care

Hi innovative,
alexa does give you no. of links
but you are right that alexa isn't accurate but it does give you an idea of the stats.

Alexa provides the information on their site which comes from the people who have the Alexa tool bar installed. That is not the average surfer but usually folks who are techies in some way, webmasters, SEO people, marketers and so on.

This produces some very good info on some sites and most nearly nothing on sites that are not associated with what the average Alexa contributor is interested in.
The sites visitor activity is pretty much private information except when a site uses the free SiteStats which was already mentioned.

To gain better visibility in the searches you can start with adding more links.
Try using Yahoo and search
Links:http://www.anysite.com.
This will produce a much better idea where a site is linking. Try to utilize some of the higher websites for links.

Some people utilize links from forums but high quality directories and quality websites usually are generally the best to use. Forum links are also beneficial but do not depend on them exclusively. Some use forum linking almost exclusivity and if the search engines decide this is a way to game the system which could cause forum links to lose value.

Add or update the content on your website and make sure you provide enough quality information on each page. Use only unique quality content.
Make sure everything is relevant to everything else and do good on page optimization.

Promote yourself in sites like Facebook and any of the other Social networking sites thank about starting a blog if you have the time.

Think outside of the box, perhaps free ads on the internet, Craig's list or small paid ads in some of the small weekly paper advertisers. These all can help if you have a product or service to sell.

If you have an informational site that you are looking to utilize affiliate marketing or Adsence you are pretty much dependent on developing a source of focused visitors - which is either generic search results or even PPC. I am not really knowledgable on PPS so can't be of any help there.

All these things usually take time to accomplish.

Sorry about the long post

I don't think search engines will stop counting forum links except for google which doesn't as I assume but the kind of links that really matter besides forums which are useful for traffic are links from sites that you are featured on like digg or delicious feature pages if you can get there because they are authority pages while the rest of these sites are not really useful because they have a low rank anyway.

I am using different tools for checking websites' backlinks, but the most preferable for me is this: backlinkwatch.com
Try it, I hope you will also like it.

great to read all that info and ideas.

last week I found this site and thought to share it with you all - statbrain.com It gives some basic info like visitors per day, back-links, page rank etc..

As to google counting back-links, I tried posting a comment in another blog for a website I am promoting and luckily got it counted as google back links in just 1 weeks time. Yes, I had taken care that my comment, the thread, blog and the topic were all relevant to my website.

So keep trying, Google sees it ALL.

I've heard a complete different things about compete both good and bad so take it with what you will. But alexa i guess is better than nothing. It will at least give you a rough idea of what your looking at.
