I just began my site, so I know I shouldn't expect a ton of traffic right away. I've been working on promoting my site. I post a blog and in forums, I submitted it to all the search engines and a lot of directories, and started writing for article city, etc.
My site comes up on google, but only when I type in the name of my site.

I don' t know what I should focus on. Should I keep focusing on writing syndicated content and promoting, or should I focus more on developing my site and adding content while just giving it time?

Have you defined the keywords you are targeting? And if so are you building content around those sets of keywords? I've always found you can build and promote at the same time, just understand it's an ongoing process. Your focus should always be to keep building more and more targeted content but you can promote your site and blog at the same time.

But you definitely have to give it time. I've heard of people saying it can take a full year to start seeing decent traffic. Just depends on your niche, etc. Stay patient and keep building.

I personally dont like writing syndicated content. I prefer to write content for my own site making it larger as times goes in.

If I was you spend more time writing more content for the site and develop it. Start reading about SEO and how you can improve the pages you already have. I'll guess that you are talking about the site in your sig so here is something to start focusing on.

Your page titles could really be otmisied better. Not only will this look better for the visitor but its a very important factor when it comes to SEO. Take your main domain page title as an example: Teen Money Central. Not many people will be searching for that actually phrase so you need to research what people do search for in regards to your niche. One tool to use that will give an idea on numbers and other key phrases is the Keyword Discovery Tool.

So, I did a quick check for the word money and here is what I can see:

Now there are key phrases that are not related to your site so you need to pick out the ones that are related. I would choose: money, make money, money maker, make money on-line, how to make money.

Now the trick here is to mash up these phrases to make one doubling your chance of ranking for more keywords but still staying very specific. Something along the lines of: how to make money on-line - the great money maker guide.

You need to do this for each page you have, keep every title different and highly relevant to what is on the content of the page.

Also, when building your links back to the site use the phrases but make sure to have lots of variations.

One perfect place to start is with your signature link which is currently http://www.teenmoneycentral.com/ - change this to something like how to make money on-line.
