Default More content=more traffic??

I do not understand this. There is this belief that if you have more content, you will have more traffic and therefore more sales. How is this possible???

I'm not sure what you mean by sales, but I'll give an example using m new blog. I just started it about three weeks ago and have been trying to add three posts to it every week. I am using Google Analytics to monitor my traffic.

As I examine the traffic for my blog I notice that most of the visitors that I get are from Google or search engines in general. As I create new posts, these start to show up in Google results for users looking for specific information.

I started with no traffic my first day, and have slowly grown to roughly 20 visitors today. As I add more content, those pages will show up in more and more search results.

The other point to remember is that people enjoy Web sites that are update frequently. They don't usually like to read the same content over and over again. For myself, if I continue to add more content then I will (hopefully) accumulate subscribers to my blog who will continue to go to my site.

Wink more quality content

Hey siab!

TechieGuy told you correctly.

More content means more traffic, but it does not neccessarily mean more sales.

Internet is a very, very big and competitive market. So if your content is average, rehashed material that can be found on thousands of websites, than visitors will probably not come back to your website. And no matter how many pages of content your sales will be low.

If your goal is selling things on internet, than this is final point of your path. The beginning is identifying potential customers and "feeding" them with valuable! i really mean valuable information. That way people will start to respect you and they will come back to your website. If they find value in what you have to offer them, they will begin to trust you and eventually they will open their wallets.

So the quality is more important that quantity. Mediocre content can be indexed in search engines, it can even bring traffic, but will definately not bring you sales.

My advice is to find passion in your website or business and think of ways how YOU can help your customers achieve things they want. And when you write something, do it excellent.

webmaster and techieguy are right.

Creating content is part of the process but making sales through your content is equally tough.

I use to believe creating a site only with affiliate links will make you rich. I was wrong! Then, i learned that creating a content rich site with banner ads hanging on the side will bring in sales. Wrong again!

Creating content which can presell is what we need. You need to write your your content in way that it makes your visitors believe in you. Because remember, your visitors are probably already in the mindset of buying/ considering-to-buy if they landed on your page. What you have to do is make them believe that their investment is well worth it int this product. Check out the this thread and read the last few posts by lisa.

I wanted to believe making money online was easy but its not that straight. Lots of hard work and dedication with other things in life. I've been at it for 8-9 months now and i'm finally start to learn go on the right path but im still at the beginning and have lots to learn.

Just gotta keep at it. I'm slowly learning things in stages. After all, Rome wasn't built in one day

I forgot to answer the actual question of this thread "does more content = more traffic"

Absolutely! Content is what bring you traffic. As you write more topics and expand your website, you will get more traffic.

Think of it this way. If for example you run a barber shop with three branches at three different locations around you city, you will get more customers than just running one shop at one location. This is a stupid example but you get the point.

I'd just like to add one more thing. When you create your content, make sure you write for your readers and not the search engines. Many times people would "optimize" their content to get a better rank in search engines.

Search engines will only index your site. Readers are the ones that will make you the money...eventually.

You are all wrong!

More content != more traffic

Instead

More unique content == more traffic

Also targeting the content for specific keywords will result in more traffic.

unique content will only make your visitors come back for more. To get the initial traffic rolling, you need start with content.

As long as those specific keywords are NOT competitive.
