I've read other sites that say Alexa.com's data is not reliable and other people say it's a great way to see how much traffic a site receives. Just curious as to what everyone else thinks.

Does Google for example take a site's Alexa rank into consideration?

Alexa is not 100% reliable because the data is generated from people who have installed the Alexa toolbar on their computers. So it is possible for a site that receives a lot of traffic have a lower ranking in Alexa. Happens all the time. But it is OK to use it as a general guide. To get an overall view I like to use a site like http://www.seomoz.org/page-strength

In the SEO field, nothing is for sure However, Alexa gives a rough estimate of a website's popularity.

According to Alexa, Yahoo! is the world's highest traffic website, so it may mean that people should be using Yahoo! search more than Google. But this is not the case with Google taking a very large chunk of the search market share.

I don't believe Google gives any consideration to Alexa rank. But just like everything else, other than a "few boys and girls @ Google" nobody knows for sure. Personally, I don't see any reason in believing in any of these stats
