Lightbulb Does having a forum count as content?

Lisa, two questions..

1. Does Everything people post in a forum count as "content" on your site?
By the way I just downloaded your book and will probably promote it on my site.. free of course. I'll be reading it over the next few weeks.

2. Does Blog Posts count as "content"?

Yes it does.

There are many ways of generating content. Writing on your own, hiring somebody to write or using and reusing content in public domain are some examples. In forums, content is contributed by the users and in the blog, it is contributed by both the author/blogmaster (articles) and the users /visitors (comments + trackbacks)

I believe forum posts and blog posts do count as content.

Thanks this is good to know. But of course I guess as Lisa says don't build a forum until you build a site. Or a blog I guess. But I'd think that blogging is a good way to add content no? Maybe starting with an ebook? I'm now thinking about this SBI. I'll be looking it over the next couple of weeks. Now I"m starting to think why be a developer? lol. Na I love it but these tools and referral links I'm getting are great. Just got to make time to read them.

Hey Jimmy why do you always address your posts to Lisa? Don't you want input from the rest of us? LOL Just kidding with ya!

I personally don't think you should start with an ebook. Ebooks aren't necessarily going to help you get a good ranking in Google. Yes Google can read PDF files if you create it Adobe Acrobat but you need a nice, clean HTML, search engine friendly site to start getting traffic.

I'm tellin you man... take the time to focus on your site and get that traffic. Once you have traffic, making money is the easy part. The challenge is bringing the traffic in, but it will be worth it. Ebooks, forums, and all that additional stuff should come later. Learning how to optimize a site for traffic is the first step and that's why it's so important you define your target audience.

First step... You're a developer right? So who do you want to target? People who want to learn ColdFusion for example or existing Webmasters who already know the various languages but want to take it a step further. It's really important you begin by focusing on that... otherwise it will be hard to know WHO your audience is. The better you know your audience the easier it will be to refer them to products and earn a commission.

It sounds so trivial but it really is worth taking the time to write down who you want to visit your site because if you clearly know who you are targeting, it will help ensure your content meets their needs. Don't think about what YOU want on your site, think about who your future audience will want to learn.

Keep in mind if you buy Site Build It! you won't be able to do a lot of the programming that you do with a regular host. Currently there's no MYSQL support and a lot of the other technical features other hosts allow. That's because Ken Evoy wants you to focus on building your content and getting traffic.

You can still upload your pages through Dreamweaver, Homesite or just hard code your HTML in Notepad if you wish, but instead of using a standard FTP program you'll have to use SBI's ftp tools which are all built into the SBI "system" that is all browser based. It's a lot different and quite a change for developers because they are so used to being able to control every aspect of your site.

I don't think it's a bad thing because I own SBI but I'm just letting you know. It is really going to teach you to focus on researching your niche and learning how to write/market. After all that's what gets you paid. If nothing else it will teach you how to get a top rank in the search engines.

But as someone else said be prepared to READ. If you don't like to read and are not patient don't buy it. You can't be in a rush or you'll waste your money.

Oh and you can download the SBI manual for free at http://actionguide.sitesell.com for a preview. This is the actual guide you'll receive when you order.

Thanks for the plug Jimmy, appreciate it. And as far as your other questions, Max summed it up pretty good. Yes, blogs by all means count as content and not only can they help cross promote your existing website, they can also give your site a "high quality inbound link" that the search engines love.

hmmm yes. This is really good stuff. I guess I'll be reading a lot in my downtime. I do apologize for always addressing Lisa. I"ve got to stop that. Other people in here have definitely offered some good sound advice. As in this case.

Lisa I know I still need to call you though so I will this week.

Take care all.
