Default Improved Statistics

After installing Google Analytics on my site I quickly benchmarked it and saw that I had a very bad 79% bounce rate with 1.80 average pageviews and also a mere 30 odd seconds per visit.

So I carefully examined each page's keywords again and assigned some new keywords and keyphrases that I thought would will be relevant to my site and content in case people search for it. Additionally on some pages where I had my tutorials and articles all listed below one another I've added a short description to each title.

This has resulted in a much better 55.09% bounce rate and my average of 1.80 pageviews have gone up to 2.72 pages/visit and people are staying around longer now because of the tad-bit extra content (descriptions). Just over two minutes!

Besides that, I've been getting more hits from the search engines now too because of the carefully selected keywords .

Hoping that this inspires people to focus on micro-improvements on their websites to give them that edge . Just thought I'd share some bit of success and feel good about it at the same time

Hi Ulrich

Yes those keywords really do matter don't they. When I started my website I would read things like "then I got serious about my keywords and the traffic started to improve" and I thought what do you mean "serious"? I had picked some high demand keywords to create content but realized that I also needed to review keywords that I had just placed in the boxes just to get the page up and running. So a couple were high demand, low supply and the others I just placed in there to get the page live. I want to review all of my pages soon too.

Great post Ulrich and congratulations. I blogged about some of what you mentioned earlier today and I think it's a great point you made about analyzing your stats to see how you can make your site better. Pay attention to those Google Analytics stats, you can learn a lot! Way to go.

Default GA is the bomb!

I 'swear' by Google Analytics for all three of my blogs and I just added the tracking code to my SBI site. And I'm like Lisa, I checked my accounts mulitple times a day. It really does help you keep track of your keywords and me, I'm always curious to know where/who my visits orginate from, what browser they're using, how long they spend on my blogs/site, etc. very, very good information.

It's a must have!
