wondering if i did the right thing...
Hi, my first post here, guess i became another Lisa follower lol
so this is my situation...My theatre group wants to move forward now, taking the next step.
our team is trying hard on promoting the group, i'm talking about stuff like...tv and radio commercials, advertising on papers n stuff...
So i offered my help as a web designer, of course i'm not as good as a pro, but i will do the best thing i can, thats the reason why i'm following 2createawebsite ideas and tips.
Flash websites are surely pretty, but they can't have that much content attached to them...so i created a forum for all the other buisiness that can't be putted in my website...
Now here comes the problem, the forum is not a part of the site...so i guess my content will be limited to the flash part, and i guess google wont like that very much eh?...
i'll give you the link for you to see how the work is going, it's written in portuguese but i guess it can give you an idea of the problem i was talking 'bout...i guess the starting traffic wont be a problem with all those commercials, but will it be ranked well in google with only that content?
and other thing, submitting to search engines, should we submit to every single one we can or is it not worthing on some of them?

if its flash its going to be very difficult to rank well. There are a few things that can be done to help. See here or search for "seo for flash". Personally I try to stick with either basic html & css or use WordPress as a site CMS as both methods allow content to be added easily but are very effect with the search engines.

The trick is to attract the search bots to the site so you dont need to submit to any search engines. Links from other sites, like this forum. It will help get the bots to the site but when finding the links always try to get them from other relevant sites as this also helps with rankings.

Yeah, as Bingo says Flash sites aren't really a favorite of the search engines so that's going to be a challenge. Is your group completely sold on Flash? I like what you can do with it, but from a search engine standpoint it's going to be tricky.

omg....
as you as good site builders may know, I created it from a template, I dunno very much about flash...
And that page Bingo presented made me depressed xD i don't really understand what i should do...
It's not like they are sold on flash but, thats the work I presented and she loved it! i can't do such a nice thing on html...
Plus, i'm kinda alone here, i got no1 to ask if i dunno how to do something...that's why i found this website/forum interesting, easy to learn stuff...
well, gonna read it once again, i guess i'll have no choice but to make it on html if i can't publish it as i want and rank it well...
well anyways, i can't give up now i said i would help, i'm gonna help...
what would you do if it were you?
like...sururus has only 2000 results when searched on google it shoulnd't be that hard...

Would it be possible to add text below the flash on the page? How is the page constructed?

Ah sorry. I mean is it a html page with the flash embedded?
As for the content below the flash, have the text at the bottom of the page if that makes sense.
You are only 20 minutes ahead of me.

nah I would never recommend hiding text, it doesnt serve a purpose. I'll need to hunt around and see if I can find you an example of what I mean.
No need to apologise, we're here to help.

Yeah the Google search bot cant read the flash code, it just knows its a file and that's it.

Flash sites are mostly images and animation so it's harder for the bots to pick up the text and decipher what the site is about.

It's not about hiding the text in Flash. Google can still see it's a flash file and can't read it regardless if you hide the text or not. The point is you need enough HTML content for the bots to read and decipher what your page is about.
I know a few people who have developed their homepage in raw HTML and used Flash throughout their site on subsequent pages. That way they have all the benefits of the Flash animation but still enough HTML for the bots to read and rank pages.
