I've been looking at Joomla templates and was disappointed because I couldn't find one with the log in at the top of the page.
Last night it hit me. I want people to look at the new stores listing every time they come to the site. So it makes sense to put the log in next to the new stores listing further down the page. Lead the visitor through the page.

Hmmm Shopgirl. This might be a stupid question (I've been known to ask a few) But please tell me...what do you mean by "log at the top page"?
I and maybe a few others here at this forum might want to know?
I mean the user log in. Where the user (visitor) will log in (or click to register) when they want to view their personal page.
Most visitors to my site are coming to go to their personal page and start shopping their favorite stores. I want them to look around the home page for a little before going to their page, especially to see the new stores list. So by putting the log in next to the new stores list, I can get them to take a look at it. That's the theory anyway.

While I agree with what you're saying, shopgirl, and it's true that stores can get away with putting the milk in the back of the store... when it comes to websites, webmasters have to be a little careful about this... because the "back" button is never too far, when the visitor cannot immediately find what they are looking for, or get the impression that they will find what they're looking for.
I know this does not necessarily apply to your site, but just wanted to put it out there
Gosh, I didn't mean put the log in at the bottom of the page just a little further down than at the very top. It would still be visible immediately on the page but you could lead the eye down the page a bit to the log in. Remember, these are people who are already registered or have looked around the site and are ready to register.
I was just putting the thought out there that you can lead your visitors where you want them to go on your page. This doesn't mean you put the important things at the bottom!!! I guess my ideas are not welcome on this forum. I just had some time before my site is ready for work and thought I'd offer some ideas.
I won't bother you guys any more although I'd hoped to get some ideas and help. That's okay. There are other forums. It was nice meeting you.
The goal of my post was not to shoot down your idea. I knew and I pointed out that my thought does not apply to your website specifically, because as you stated, your visitors are logging in to their personal pages, so they already know what they are looking for.
I wanted to point it out to highlight the point that many times site visitors (especially if they are new to the site) are impatient to find what they are looking for... and this is just something that we as webasmter have to keep in mind.
I am sorry I offended you. I did not intend to do that.
Shopgirl, I don't think Sherif was shooting down your idea. He was just stating a point not to make people search for things and I didn't take that this was directed solely at you.
That's what makes a forum great. We won't always agree with everything someone says and different opinions are what make discussions interesting.

I thought it was good advice Sherif. I do remember having this discussion when I took a few web classes. You do need to make it as easy on your viewers as possible. You have to be creative to show them what you want them to see. I think a newsletter with the new stores would have solved her problem.
The milk is always in the back of the store...
