Default If you're not excited about your site.....

why would anyone else get excited?

This is the one aspect of marketing that always surprises me most. I know how hard it is to see yourself as fantastic at what you do, that what you have to say is valuable to others and most of all - that they want to hear it.

It took me years of people saying they loved what I did for them to finally believe that I was good at it. One day someone said to me something like this - It's okay to know you're good at what you do, as long as you also know the limitations you have at the moment and strive to learn something new every day.

We live in a society that looks down on people who blow their own horn all the time. That's one reason so when the net made it possible for us "common folk" to compete online, most of us have a terrible time marketing our sites. For most of us, our sites are an extension of ourselves.

So..... If you're not really excited about your site or what it represents, how do you expect anyone else to get excited about it?

This is exciting stuff!!! You now have the ability to get your message out there to the world! Go for it!!

So my question to all of you.....What have you done lately that will get people excited about your site?

Such great points, shopgirl. I think one thing that keeps me going is my love for helping others and when I look back on my life before the Net I was always helping people with their PC's (basic Windows stuff, etc.) and I enjoyed it. So my sites are sort of like an extension of my life in that way.

I think many people get caught up in the "how will I get rich" mode and they forget this really is supposed to be fun... and if it's not, you probably won't have much success.

You definitely gotta have a passion for what you do.

Hmm, What keeps my intrigued with my site?

Having a dog wake me up in the morning, awnsering other peoples questions related around my site and then moving my two hamsters into the bathroom because I can't stand the noise as the evening draws to a close!

Default Good thinking.

Some good thoughts here.

You may have a hard time "bragging on yourself" but in a way that is good. When we have a valid self-concept we do so by first seeing that everyone is equally valid. We are not better than anyone. But we are just as good as others, too.

Those of us who have learned to speak publicly get over most nervousness at the moment we stopped thinking about ourselves and started thinking about what we had to say. If the content is good, that's all that counts. If it isn't, then we better be nervous! I see the net as the same.

Many of the participants in this forum have great content. As a result they can be happy to market with enthusiasm.

Good success to all.

James

James I like your image. I've been watching 6 bald eagles flying over the Mississippi for the past several weeks. My house is on a bluff and my living room wall is all windows so I can watch the river, the birds and all their glory. This is one major reason I do what I do. Being able to work from home and enjoy the view...nothing quite like it.
