Default dmoz.org

I read a while back that dmoz.org was a very important directory to get your website listed on.

Im just curious to know if anyone knows if thats true and why.

Thanks.

There is an article that I found on Search Engine Land that goes into detail about DMOZ including and interview with the Editor in Chief
http://searchengineland.com/dmoz-a-s...f-search-28463
This will provide you with some background and ideas about where they are headed.

DMOZ listing certainly helps but they takes so long time to list a website.

It is one of the oldest directories and it is an important one. But not everyone gets there site listed. Just because you submitted your site doesn't necessarily mean that your site will be listed must people get rejected nowadays. It is getting harder and harder to get your site listed.

It takes a while because they human editors who review your submission. Just think that just how you are trying to get your site listed 100's of other web masters are trying to do the same.

I think the results of having your website listed in DMOZ is decreasing now. I'm sure Google would have noticed the lack of staff at DMOZ.

Most sites will never get in anyway, not because your website is bad but because there is a lack of volunteers.

I think the best thing to do is to submit your site then forget about it. If you’re lucky you may receive an email saying you have been accepted, if not don't worry about it.

The best thing to do is make sure your website is in tip top shape and then submit to dmoz, but dont worry about it much. In fact directory submissions are not even really important anymore.

Its the biggest directory and apparently the most popular. It has high page rank and many visitors, so getting listed there is great thing. It is free, but they approve only quality websites and it takes quite long...

I have heard that getting your site listed in major directories: DMOZ and Yahoo will increase your page rank in the search engines. The ones who said it doesn't even matter that much anymore, can u explain to me why is that? Thanks and cheers!

Forget about pagerank, it's almost irrelevant. It can help with SERP rankings because google trusts these two directories as they only list quality sites.

I believe that dmoz is so overrated, there are lots of myths that once your site has been submitted in dmoz it will rank well in search engines. But the truth is even though dmoz gives quality backlink for your site, it is still not enough to ensure that you will rank high on search engines specially google, for you still need to work on building links on authority sites.

By the way it seems like dmoz is really getting old, there are lots of dead links and recently I am trying to submit the new site I was optimizing and encountered error while submitting until I finally give up on submitting it. does anyone encountered this also?
