Does anyone know what is a reasonable amount of monthly traffic to have before trying to charge businesses for advertising on your site? My website will be local to my city and I've thought about targeting some related businesses to advertise on my site but didn't know if I'd need to show at least 5000 subscribers, etc to the site before they'd pay.

I'd even thought of offering the ads for free until I hit a certain number of subscribers and then charging by the month or year...

Any thoughts?

I'm not sure about this as well. Just make sure you have your analytics data handy to prove the amount of traffic you do have.

There are tons of programs out there (even adsense) which allow advertisers to bid on your ad space so you may want to start using them to get a wide variety of advertisers considering advertising on your site.

There you will see the going rate for your ad space and you can always take it off after a month and charge more by negotiating directly w/ advertisers.

prob a lot i would say at least 300 unique a day at the bare minimum. You can prove it to your potential advertisers by your Alexa ranking. Have that clearly shown on your website so they know it's a fairly high traffic website. Good luck...
