Default Do what you love...

I thought it might be fun to bounce some ideas around here about different ways folks make money with web sites.

Here's a short list to start:

1- Google (AdSense) Ads
2- Promoting services you provide offline or online
3- Selling other sorts of ads (non-contexual)
4- Selling information products you create
5- Affiliate links

I'd love to see others grow this list - there are LOTS more ways!

Hey amy, great topic.

I'm getting into the e-book generation space myself and selling e-books is a great way to make money from your site. Particularly if you get it listed with Clickbank and allow other affiliates to help you promote it.

I guess I'm trying to decide if it's best to give it away or sell it. I think I'm leaning toward selling but we'll see.

@Lisa,
Is there any way us normal users can block posts so you cant reply?
because i would like to make a catalogue of all kinds websites that deal with almost everything on the net like a directory but in one post it will be pretty easy to make i just have to be able to edit the post and lock it...

please, and thank-you

How 'bout selling goods in an online store.

I tried that once and it didn't go over very well. I read Lisa's article about why so many shopping cart sites fail and it made sense. I was trying to put up the store but no content to get found in the search engines. Next time I'll do it righ!

Miles - could be an interesting test to see if free ebooks (for list building) or selling (for profit) is the better way to go. I do both at my site. Depends on what you want to do.

Ava - You got it! Content is key key key. Folks can look at pictures anywhere- but if your virtual store site couples valuable supporting content with images and opportunities to buy - you may have a winner! Couple those concepts with a tight niche - could be good!

I used to buy e-books but I've found that most of the information can be found some place on the web. If it ain't free I don't usually bother. There are rare occassions where I find an e-book that's worth buying. I usually wait until I have a highly credible recommendation.

yes i have to agree with you there, buying ebooks is quite exciting sometimes so i buy them... i have had some bad ebooks sometimes as in when i pay 6.95 for it i do not get the content promised... it was a blank page and that made me mad ..........

A little advice with selling ebooks is letting the customer view a small part of that ebook on the website and showing the size of the ebook

Thanks
