Hi I am new to all of this and I am excited. I originally started looking into building a website for a business I had for 5 years. I'm in the habit of watching the early morning news and they were interviewing seniors making a living on the internet with websites. I've been out of work for a year and feeling very depressed I said you know if they could do this I can. I believe in getting all I can for free, so I started searching the internet. I finally came upon Lisa's page and was amazed she was not trying to sell this information. I tried the webpalace for a nominal fee and my first webpage should be published in a few days. I still fought with the website, I had trouble scrolling that last page but I was able to submit four of the five pages. Now I am working on my new web pages and yes I want to make money.
I have two kids in college so I have plenty of drive and determination for just that alone.
I appreciate any help or suggestions you all might be able to give me.
Yes, Im in the south.

Hi Cori1,

I know you mentioned in your other post that you wanted to sell things from your site. Is that what you're trying to do? If you let us know a little more specifically what you're trying to do, maybe we can help you better.

Default I want to sell pies

Hey Lisa,
I want to sell sweet potatoe pies. The product needs to get there within two days. I would guess to say they weigh about 6 pounds a piece and I want to package them where they will stay in tact.

Also want to post recipe's and be a web source for new cooks. It's a soul food recipes for dummies concept

Cori

I agree PayPal is probably you're easiest option to setup for shipping and payments. You set up the type of delivery and shipping you will use with PayPal.com and then you incorporate your PayPal links into your site.

As far as your site goes, you can use Site Build It! like many here or you can do the "do it yourself" method and go to godaddy, websitepalace or whatever you like.

Do you have software to build your pages? If you don't buy SBI you're going to need some kind of editor unless you plan on learning how to code HTML from scratch.

Hi cori1.

Have you considered starting out small, i.e. locally? It may be a better option to start with your network of friends, their friends, etc. Word of mouth travels fast! In the meantime, you can still work on adding info to your website, and eventually once you dominate your area, you can expand the geographical area that you serve.

Here is why I say that... If I wanted to buy a pie, my first inclination would not be to find it online. If, however, I had tasted a delicious pie at a party or gathering and I remember that I picked a cute little business card by the pie or if I remember the host/ess mentioning that he/she bought this pie from a friend, I would definitely have no problem going online to your website and order it... the key is, though, I would have tasted it, liked it, and know what to expect... does this make sense?

You can even start an offline affiliate program (of some sort)... i.e. when you're first starting out, tell your friends or acquaintances who order from you that if they refer business/orders your way, you will give them 5% or something like that. That way, the host/ess would not only feel that he/she is helping a friend's business, but would also have an incentive to promote your delicious pies.

How about you send me a sample of your pies for the purpose of research and product development?
