Anyone heard of www.whateverlife.com ? I just saw her story on The View last week. A 17 year old girl owns the site. She taught herself HTML and web design at the age of 9 or 10 and now she runs this site that offers myspace layouts and designs.

She said she makes a million dollars per year and it's mostly in advertising. I love stories like this. She said she's now going to expand her concept and do designs for cell phones.

Lisa, I saw this on The View too! And you know what, it further drove the point home of how you must enjoy yourself first and you can't go into this just because you're seeking the money. I was glad she brought that point home.

I have to admit, I went into this money hungry and just trying to find out what would make me the most money rather than trying to decide what I would enjoy.

Great story. She even hired her mom to help her! Can you imagine being 17 and hiring your mom to work for you? LOL

So true. You can't just chase the money or you won't have success. I remember when I first started back in 1998, even though I only made about $14/month for the first few months I thoroughly enjoyed writing and learning how to market on the Web.

I spent just as much time online and enjoyed it just as much as I do now. The thrill of checking my visitor stats to see that people were finding me and getting emails from people I've helped is what kept me motivated. I NEVER set out to make a full time income doing this. It just happened as a result of doing what I enjoy..... writing and learning how to market. Never has this felt like a job to me, and I'm sure if you ask other successful people out here they'd say the same thing.

Hey! That's how I learned HTML and at about that age XDDD I learned it for neopets, ahhh good times. I bet she learned it for the same reason, for a cool profile on some kiddy site.

To think that some hobby like that could lead up to such a useful talent? I love stories like these too.

Cool Whateverlife.com

It probably wasn't HTML as much as perserverence(over 90% of folks don't know it lol) or motivation as that alone and what Lisa said is what probably drove her to succeed.
