Am I on the right track?
My site has been live for about 1 month now and I have about 20 pages complete, and I just wanted some feedback about my performance so far.
In august, I had a total of 118 unique visitors, 297 visits, and 983 page views. This month so far, 34, 56, and 146.
But, I've only made $1.20 from adsense.
Before I started my site, I prepared myself for slow growth, and I know I have to get over the "hump" stage, so I'm not expecting overnight success. But when you compare my numbers to my adsense revenue, while taking into account that my site is new, should I already be getting more clicks, or is this pretty normal.
I've already submitted an article to article city and ezine, joined a couple of forums related to my site theme, and started a blog. I've also been experimenting with adsense placement. Should I be doing more at this stage, or just stay at this pace?
Any feedback would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Hi West
That's a difficult question to answer with a simple "yes" or "no" for many reasons. First of all, how your ads convert largely depend on your content, ad placement and how well they match your audience's needs.
Your traffic seems pretty normal to me for a new site but that's a word I hesitate to use out here too because results vary.
As far as AdSense goes I would try experimenting with different placement, link colors, etc. to see if you can boost your conversion ratio and just keep building content. I think the fact that you are getting visitors is very encouraging and as your content grows so will the visits.
Good luck!

for adsense you should look at your CTR percentage. if it is under or around 1-2% then it needs improvement. Like attackdepression said "try experimenting with different placement, link colors, etc." only that can tell what will work with your site. You can follow this thread we made about adsense ad placements.

But for now don't worry about adsense click but rather market your site to increase your traffic. Once you have 50-100 visitors a day, then start experimenting with adsense.

You are for sure on the right track. Just keep what your doing at a steady pace but as webdev said, don't worry too much about Adsense until you get more traffic.

My blog is fairly new as well (went live June 23rd). I do use AdSense, but am mainly focusing on content. I am finding that the more content I am writing, the more visitors I'm getting. Right now, however, most of my visitors come from Google, which I'm hoping to change in the future. I would like more visitors from referring sites.
As for Adsense I have been steadily improving. I haven't broken the bank just yet as I have made just over $7 this month, but it's better than zero the previous months.
I find that the ads placed at the top of my post are the ones being clicked. I have setup channels for each ad placement and I'll will be able to tell which ones are getting the better click through rate.
But as it was mentioned, focus on your content as that is what will give you visitors.

TechieGuy, what sources do you use to promote/market your blog? I can't think of anything other than article sites and bookmarking sites.
I wonder if there are article sites specifically focusing on technical things, with lots of user base and allow people to write articles and promote their blogs. Those can be a good source for traffic as well.
For example, sites like dzone which are specifically for developers. You can promote your links here but it more of a social bookmarking site than an article site.

I have written a few articles on ezinearticles.com, and that gives me a few visitors a day, but not a whole lot.
At the moment around 70% of my traffic comes from Google. I joined a few blog social networks (blogcatalog, mybloglog), and hope to learn a few things about marketing/promoting, and as a result I do get many visitors from there to.
Right now, I am currently focusing on my posts as I have around 35 so far.
