Sometimes as a beginner you get a fast break but it is hard if you don't. I feel that after 3 months i should have been making $5-$10 a day from adsense with my php site but i haven't hit the $1/day mark yet with CTR less than 1% a day (I don't know how else to monetize my site. With 336 clicks to date from my hosting referral link, I've had no luck in getting a hosting referral signup from my pages)

I keep submitting my pages to big to small tutorial sites (and thanks to these community tutorial sites otherwise i wouldn't know how to build back links to my pages), my google traffic is slooooowly going up and sometimes it feels its not going up because one day i would get 120 visits from google and the next only 50 and this is has been going on for 1-2 months.

My goal is to turn my php site into a one good recourse site for PHP, increase my traffic to at least 15k+/day and improve my CTR ratio to 3-5%, only then i could hope to make some money. lol long way to go

I dont think you'll have much of a problem with that site WebDev. Its an excellent resource and highly relevant.

With Google its about time & trust. They'll try and get a feel for your site and determine where it belongs in the ranks. A reason why you'll see a lot of bouncing up & down in the positions when a site is new. As your site will get older the better it will perform within Google and hold a steady position. Your content and inbound links are going to determine exactly where the site belongs in the results.

Keep updating you site with new content. Keep all your outbound links highly relevant to your topic and if you use any affiliate links use nofollow on them.

I would also start browsing around PHP blogs and people who blog about scripting. Keep up with their posts and make comments every couple of days. When the bloggers get to know you and your site they'll probably end up linking to you from a blog post.

Building links isn't easy and its no longer about how many you can get, its all down to quality and relevance.

If you are looking at Google as a main source for traffic then its all about time, in my opinion. From the looks of it your site is going through the normal cycle of Google ranking that we all experience. You can pick-up the pace by getting some high quality links in, the challenge is finding them.

You making anything from those Auction Ads? I would have personally have gone for advertising PHP tutorial books etc - keeping it 100% relevant. Try using Amazon's affiliate program too.

Gavin's right. Webdev, for my flat stomach site I promoted it like crazy the first 3-6 months and the traffic stayed steady for a while. Throughout the year it sloooooowly gained in traffic. Then all of a sudden in January of 2007 Google decided they liked the site and the traffic tripled instantly. Just keep doing what you do and in time your traffic will develop.

I need to put the no follow attribute on my referral hyperlinks tags.

I've made two link exchange with HTML tutorial related sites. These might not be relevant in bound.

I've started submitting my pages to PHP related sites. Two good sites are php.resourceindex.com and www.goodphptutorials.com and i'm looking for more high ranking php tutorial sites like these. I gonna also start looking into PHP related blogs as well.

I wanted to try auction ads with games/electronic related ads because i thought people coming to my site are most probably into the that king of stuff as well (well who isn't...lol). But its not performing well either. I have had it for 2-3 weeks now.

I signed up with amazon and will replace auctions ads with PHP books which is better because i'm gonna write reviews on the books which might increase my CTR.

After reading that i feel a bit optimistic

What i'm noticing is that google will give me search engine traffic as soon as it find a new inbound link to one of my pages. For 2-3 days it will send me traffic and the traffic will start to go down after that. Then i would submit the same link to another high rank tutorial site. Google will notice that inbound link and start send me traffic again. Like Gavin said its pretty much a cycle.

So, to keep maintaining traffic, i need to keep finding new sites and keep submitting my links. It's like i'm playing catch with google...lol

I wasn't sure if i would have to keep doing this to keep bringing traffic.

At the start yes it will seem that way but Lisa's description on getting triple traffic from Google does happen with most sites. To me this is when Google see's the site as a trusted source for information.

If you can don't go for any more link exchanges, just do one ways. Blogs are the perfect source for one way links and can work wonders. You'll also pickup some traffic from the blog, the more popular the better. Dont spam people.

Welcome Kishe,

Please be aware that your posts should be on topic to the original discussion. Your post was a bit self promotional in nature. You are free to promote your company, site, etc. in your sig file (Go to UserCP) to edit your signature but please do not post simply to advertise your services. Thanks

What have you looked at so far? Is there anything specific that you'll need for the site?
