There are so many answers to your question so first you need to decide what appeals to you. Would you like to sell products? Are you interested in affiliate marketing where you refer products from your site and get paid a commission? Are you into MLM? There are many way to make money but first you need to decide what appeals to you. Are there any sites out there you like and would like to model your ideas after?

If you know basic HTML and computer addictive, you can build a theme related website. But you should find a good niche.. Just add AdSense.. find affiliate programs.. It's a first steps for home business.

You could always start out by selling on Ebay. It's easy to learn, fun and can be quite profitable. You don't even have to carry the products..you can use dropshippers.
The first way to start a business, is to invest into yourself! The number one reason people fail, is because they don't have a positive attitude toward there avenue of endeavors, while they see no profit or even little profit. So my suggestion is to start small in anything you do, take daily step and keep your mind positive through out the whole process and failure " WONT AFFECT YOU"
I agree with Freebird. Start selling off your unwanted "stuff" online. I started with eBay a few years ago selling off stuff I got from QVC when I worked there. I made a lot of extra money selling the items I got from the employee store and never used. I just started relisting on ebay cause I can't make anything off my websites yet. LOL
We were in the same boat as you several years ago. You might want to take missme's advice and start trying to sell things via Ebay at first. That way you can get a feel for what you want to sell and determine whether there is a demand. After that, you can then move on to creating your own online store.
