I think it depends on the kind of site you have and the products you want to sell. Worldwidebrands.com is a company that comes to mind. I met with them at this conference last year and they are quite reputable.
I think dropshipping could be a great way to monetize a website... however, it carries more risk/cost than being an affiliate promoting other's products.

Overall, I think it is a good idea, but I would really do some market research.
