Default Selling Text Links

The web is strange, very strange place.

I got from someone who wants to buy text links for the Profitable Websites Blog

I'm shocked.

Personally I think the blog/site is in complete disarray and I've got a potential advertiser...if they only knew what the traffic is really like. It's steady but low...I did get a couple of new backlinks tho'. I'm just barely keeping it alive, or so i thought, but I am working to get it together.

Anybody sold text links?

Whats the next step beyond emailing them back?

$$$$$ how much is right?

I'm feeling a little weird about this.

Thanks

Well people are obviously finding you and reading your useful posts, so they think it would be a profitable venture. Personally I would accept for your type of website as it would fit in great.

However Search engines are meant to be penalizing people for selling too many inbound links and becoming a link farm.

I'm not sure about price range, I wouldn't charge him much however he came to you, instead of the other way round which I would say is quite uncommon. My natural instinct is telling me about $10 every six months or something.

google is indeed going all out for sites selling links now, you might want to be careful with that..., there are PR drop, drop in rank etc. seen on sites that has involve in this, but there are still some not seeing that effect.

I've used AdBrite for the past year to accommodate people who want to advertise on my site and haven't seen any penalties. Although I will stop using them after my paid ads expire in Feb. Their customer service is horrible. It's a shame though because it's an easy way to manage advertisers because AdBrite does all the billing.

There are other networks out there thought that allow you to sell text links. I wouldn't use AdBrite though. My customers kept complaining how confusing the ad renewals were, etc.

There's also an open source program you can use. I have to go thru my emails to find the name but I may consider using something like that where I have more control. I just liked using AdBrite because they accept the payments for you and then pay you out in a bulk sum.
