Default Twitter Spammers?!!!!

For anyone who uses twitter successfully, I have a major question. Should I purge users who follow me, those who follow just for the sake of them being able to advertise. Or, should I allow them to follow just for the exposure. I ask because I'm fairly new to twitter, and over the past 2 days I had a few people follow me. Once I looked at their profile, all I seen were tweets for site promotion. Is this good/bad? Also, yesterday I tweeted "I need more followers", and if no more then 15min later I had 2 or 3 new people following me. And that little situation yesterday is the main reason this question came about to me. You can take a look at the few people following me (twitter name: AVGibby) to get a direct view of the 4 followers I'm mentioning here. If there is such a thing as twitter spam, I want to nip it in the bud now before it becomes a problem.

Thanks,
Anthony V. Gibby

Unless someone is annoying me with spammy tweets (sending @replies directly to me) then I don't really care who follows me. Most of these spammers follow you because they want you to follow them in return. I just ignore and don't return the follow.

I do the same a Lisa. I stopped following those that followed me mainly because of the spammy tweets. I now only follow a few people.

I am glad I asked this question before i started following others. However, I do see how twitter can be a great marketing avenue.

lol I just started twitter myself and it is pretty addictive but I had to realize that I don't have to follow everyone that follows me. Some people do just spam up the place especially in my niche But now I just follow certain people and if some one follows me that's great .

I just check out very briefly what they tweet about before I decided to follow them. You can usually get a general idea by looking at their first 5 tweets or so.

yes, you can just ignore those you think are spammers. Spammers only wanted to promote their products or sites.
