Twitter has suffered a DOS attack!
Twitter started playing up around an hour ago and the attack is still on going at the moment, as you can see its hard to prevent an attack like this unfortunately

Its back just about, you might get some problems logging in or out, as far as I'm aware it was down for about 4-6 hours
DOS attacks are becoming more frequent, sucks!

I read about it on cnn.com. Many of the news sites reported the DoS attack against twitter.
They also mentioned that twitter was back online, but at the time when I checked I still couldn't get in. Apparently it is back online.

Ohh! That's why my Twitter wasn't loading lol. I just thought it was due to the high volumes of traffic Twitter gets.
Thanks for clearing that up

Paypal had a problem too earlier this week. Jealous competition? Restless teenager nerds?

That is kind of scary that all of these major websites are getting breached. Is ther any information that is being taken or are they doing to get the publicity?

I guess it's because with sites like that there is more to look after. It could be due to employee's loosing some important imformation. I guess to a hacker it would be more fun to hack Twitter than your average website lol. Perhalps the reason is even for the emails, think about a email list with everyone on Twitter and how much that would be worth lol.

I still can't tweet as of 10:00 p.m. Eastern. I must be one of the stragglers to get back on board.

http://twitter.com/uronlyantivirus
LiveJournal, Facebook, youtube and google all faced attacks, they didn't seem to be brought down like twitter though, supposedly according to Graham Cluley who works for Sophos it may have been targeted at an anti-Russian blogger, it was also the 1st anniversary of the conflict between Russian and Georgian troops
Obviously this can't happen if everyone has a decent updated antivirus suite so make sure you do!

That's the beauty of technology - Up and Down. I am confident that twitter's programmers will find a solution for this. See, it's back. Google experience down times too. But reputation not harmed, Google still is an authoritative SE.

As Twitter has a lot of traffic and is considered to be one of the best social networking website on the internet, I am sure they must have some preventive measures in order to get rid of such DDOS attacks.
