Default Work around for short URL services?

Hey all!

As I mentioned in another post, there is an issue with scams on Twitter using URL shortening services.

To make the URL fit, posters use this for convenience which makes sense.

The problem is, you just can't be sure where they are sending you to so they send you to a page infected with Malware and such.

Has anyone thought of how to use a shortened URL but make the destination visible to the viewer?

Just a thought.

Hi coosbaytv,

I know that if you use Brizzly you get to see the full url. Not many people use it, but if you want an invite, let me know. You also see video and images without clicking the links.

Ileane: good info...

So to use Brizzly, one would create an account (after an invite of course) and then log in to it instead of Twitter?

Also, does this work/integrate with the Hootsuite you mentioned?

Brizzly and HootSuite do not work together. You either use one or the other (instead of the Twitter web page) to see your tweets.

I prefer HootSuite (no invite needed). But the biggest advantage of Brizzly is what I just told you.

Honestly, I never click on links unless I am familiar with the person. And I don't click links when people don't explain what they are linking to in the tweet. One more thing - don't click links from direct messages (DM) unless you know the person really, really well. There has been several of these going around lately too. In fact I even see this going on with FaceBook too. I got a DM on FaceBook from someone that I know casually. I never opened it because it just seemed strange ~ turns out someone hacked her account. I think I was the only one that didn't click the link.

Whew, that was close!
