Even With Backups, How Long Are You Down?

As a mobile-only laptop user, I rely heavily on my USB key.
My clients' websites along with their server information are the most important things on there.
Of course, my personal websites and financial information are stored, too.

Two days ago, the key went totally flaky, disconnecting after copying any large number of files.
It's a SanDisk Cruzer 8GB and I never even got to fill it up!

I finally went out and bought a new USB key, a SanDisk GigaWare 4GB, $12 from Radio Shack.
Most of the important stuff was backed up onto the laptop;
however, to be absolutely certain that the key was synched with the Laptop,
I spent 8 hours connecting and reconnecting the blasted key until the job was done.
Because of my work, some backups are obsolete within days.
The fastest way for me to find newer files is to use a comparison program like Beyond Compare 2.

Then, TODAY, I realized that I didn't have all my RoboForm folders synched.
For instance, I couldn't find the password for Website Babble (horrors!)
See, my main backup is a single folder containing all project folders and other categories.
RoboForm is not within that single folder, but I have a second backup task for that one.
Unfortunately, I forgot to copy the rest of the support folders for RoboForm.
The good news is, I had taken advantage of their free download of GoodSync and was able to resynch from their servers.

All in all, the transfer to the new USB key went smoothly.
It could have gone better if I had bothered to dump the entire Key to the laptop, periodically.
That only works if I don't update projects daily.
Otherwise, I'm better off with an incremental backup system.

I've written extensively about backup processes on HubPages.
(I can't link to it because I have an affiliate link for RoboForm there, but you can search Hubpages for Mitchell Allen .)

If you don't have a backup plan, your computer will make one for you and you won't like it.

Do you have any backup stories to share?

Cheers,

Mitch

Hi! I was wondering if anyone could enlighten me.

For a couple of weeks now I have this message from time to time when I click on a link that opens IE. It doesn't do it everytime. Sometimes it does and sometimes it doesn't (on the exact same link!)

--------------------------------------------------------
Microsoft C++ Runtime library
--------------------------------------------------------
Runtime Error!

Program:C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\IEXPLORE.EXE

R6025
-pure virtual function call
-------------------------------------------------------

I've tried researching it on google, but couldn't find anything helpful!

If I click on the ok button it closes IE and gives me a message to report/not report the error. If I just leave it aside, I can carry on doing the stuff I need and it closes when I close IE.

Just wanted to know why I have this message and is there a simple way to not have it anymore!?!??

I have a set of them in my classroom that I plan to use soon. I need to know if you've ever been able to use other apps with it. I know that it's compatible with Palm OS applications, but I'm interested in using another kind of app.

I'd appreciate your feedback, even if you aren't a teacher.

Who Is Your Role Model ?

For me, i'm an aspiring footballer and if you should ask me who my role models are (i mean those that inspire me) then i will tell you who some of them are,
I will say Zidane because of his advanced method of playing football,
i will say Pele because i just love his kind of personality,
Drogba, because of his strength,
and so many of them.
But why is it that many people never agree that they have any role model in their current or aspiring profession, is it that they feel too big ? when asked, they will simply say God. I'm not against christianity in any way because i'm one of them.
The truth is that before you choose any course in life, you already admire some personalities that are already there. Can you guys tell us who your role models are ?

My Adapter has been losing frequency(to the point where I have to raise it to a certain level and position to browse the web or it'll disconnect. Kinda like the old T.V. Antennas back in the day). I have a *Netgear Wireless USB Adapter* from *Linskys*. My modem/router seems to be in perfect condition. I've tried calling Earthlink and Linsky to no avail.:cursing::D If I'm not mistaken, I think Lisa had a similar issue?

Also, whenever I try to start up firefox, it either never pops up or opens up with a coded message within a small window(whenever I click that, the whole window disappears). Plus, I can only connect to the internet on Firefox(this just keeps getting weirder every day).

Yankees win the World Series. Blahhhh!!!
Does anyone else hate "big market" teams? A huge payroll to dispose in getting all of the best talent. I suppose it is different if you live there but it makes me and most others sick.
