Please answer this thread if you are sure about it, other wise it will confuse me even more :)
First, I used to think outbound links are backlinks are the same thing.
But my backlinks are being mentioned as "inbound link to the url (my site) you entered" by a domain tool by MOZ.

Also, I used to think inbound links are internal links in your site (links to various contents of your own site) and outbound links are external links that link out of your website to other sites.
Guess I got the concept wrong.
Looking for some clarification

So, I'm still finding my way through the mire of website traffic, analytics, etc. I received a trackback on one of my pages but I'm not sure if it's legit. It claims to be from Google News. Neither the link (nor the referring name) redirect anywhere. Both just take you straight to the Google news page (as it claims to). But if Google added a trackback, shouldn't it lead to the article where I'm cited? What would be the benefit of someone else providing a trackback to my page that claims to be google? I'm just wondering if I should aprove this thing or not. Thanks, so much in advance!

When I checked my Google Webmaster Tools I found that my website is showing up for keywords that I didn't optimize for ...

for example I optimize my website for "funny pictures with captions", and the website is showing up for "funny images with captions". I know that this is good, but the keyword is dancing all around,

sometimes I search for "funny pictures with captions" and I show up in the 7th page, and some time I don't show up. and the same goes for the other keyword. of course I am optimizing for more than two keywords but the results is not consistent.

my question is how does Google decide which keywords you website should show up for?

Is it the on-page keywords?, or is it the off-page anchor text keywords?

Thank you in advance ...

A few questions about SEO?

Hey everyone, there's a few questions I've had for a while.

Hey everyone, there's a few questions I've had for a while.

1. How important is it to add a sitemap through webmaster tools? I read that Google uses it to crawl pages that it might otherwise skip. If my website is set up through Wordpress, where every page and article is organized through the same setup, will Google not more than likely crawl the pages anyways? Or is it simply better to be safe than sorry and upload a sitemap?

2. I use Alexa to compare with my competition and other websites. I own about 10 sites or more that I've been working on over the years/months and I find Alexa to be very helpful. I have been told online that Alexa has nothing to do with SEO though and that it is pointless because it has nothing to do with Google. Is this true or is it better than nothing?

Also, through Alexa, I've noticed that there are websites with 300+ more backlinks than other websites, yet they are ranked at least one million or more behind sites that have fewer backlinks. Does the age of the website have anything to do with this? Is the quality of the backlinks the problem? Is it the content provided that helps rank a website higher? Is it all of the above?

3. Does an ad require the word 'advertisement' next to or under it? I contacted Google asking how my ad placement looked on one of my sites and if I needed to space the images or even place the word 'advertisement' under each ad. Google replied telling me that I needed to do both. The ad placement was good, it just needed more room (I had a 10px margin above and below images that I was using to represent categories on the left side of my site. I had the ad another 10px below the lowest category image), but then they wanted me to put the word 'advertisement' below all of my ads. Is this really required? As I don't see it on other websites, or was Google just telling me so that it would better practice?

(Also, for anyone interested, I asked Google if artistic nudity was allowed and they told me that it was, as long as it was basically not pornography)

4. I believe I know the answer to this but I'm wondering other opinions. Do tags help with SEO? If I tag something the length of an entire title, will that help if someone searches that title into Google? Will it collect the tag and treat the article the same way?

5. How does an image rank higher in Google images? I have an image website (www.devilonadinosaur.com) and I'm running this site through Wordpress. There's a title, description, etc etc for each featured image, which I upload at around 860px width each. The remaining images I name by artist and image title (ex. frank-frazetta-encounter.jpg)
Many of my images are scattered throughout Google images when you type these artist names. I don't know how any reach a certain rank though? Is it the name? Do - help more than _ when it comes to image titles? Does adding a caption in a p tag help Google map my images better? I just don't quite get it yet.

For now that's all that I can think of. There's a few more questions I had but until then I guess.

Thanks for all the previous answers I have had from everyone and thanks for your time!

I'm creating a website that will have 30 Brands each brand will have 10 different products they make, each product will have around 10 different...

I'm creating a website that will have 30 Brands each brand will have 10 different products they make, each product will have around 10 different years it was made in.
So we are looking at 300 pages and on those pages there will be 10 product specifications (free downloadable PDF files). All together free 3,000 PDF Files.

I'm wondering should I be tagging all those pages or not?
If I'm tagging should I use same words over and over and over.
One tag I can think of is Brand name, 2nd Tag year it was made, 3rd tag product name.
Besides that I'm not sure what else can I use as tag because customers will come to see information for one specific product and I'm sure they would careless about other products because they don't own them.
For example if you looking for HP(brand), Laptop(Product), 2007(Year).(lets assume laptops are same size same memory and other things only difference is brand and year manufactured.)

Besides Brand/Product/Year I can use words like specifications, details or similar words for each download but I'm wondering how good is to see 300 pages tagged with word "specifications" or "details"?

So the bottom line is do I tag and categorize this pages and files or not?
I created Pages for each brand(30) and each product(10) so categorizing them will be repeating same thing I titled my pages. Same thing for tags should I tag if I'm so limited with tag words? How tagging or not tagging and categorizing will impact my SEO?

Whole website will provide only data specifications and honestly nothing really to blog about.

I would appreciate any comments, suggestions.

Thank you,
Jim

Hey guys. I was reading one of Lisa's posts not too long ago about sending in some SEO/ traffic tips to enter a contest. I never really got around to...

Hey guys. I was reading one of Lisa's posts not too long ago about sending in some SEO/ traffic tips to enter a contest. I never really got around to it, but I will share some stuff that's helped me out.

I want to preface this by saying I don't have a lot of high traffic volume, but the quality is getting better and better. More targeted. I know this for a fact because people have purchased from me and the average time spent on a page is around 6 minutes.

Without getting too long winded I'll do my best to bullet out a few things. But take into consideration that the strategy behind my site has changed tremendously. I'm using the site in my sig as a marketing tool for the services I perform in my local area. But that's not to say that this site isn't capturing visits all over the U.S.

First, you gotta get on board with Copyblogger. Their materials (free materials I might add) have expanded my knowledge of what we're doing here. That team headed by Brian Clark knows how to inform people about this business. They are very generous as well. But you have to realize they're into teaching and that often means reading their stuff. And there is A LOT of it.

Several things Copyblogger teaches you (and this stuff works)

Build at least three cornerstone pages that harness three topics you really know a lot about

Having read the first bullet, aggregate your content. If you have a bunch of skimpy pages that have no real substance then combine the information into one solid page.

Use simple navigation with clear concise messaging.

After doing those few things alone my keywords have started to gain a lot of traction.

The next thing I would advise you on is (and you may have already done this) you need to get your Google Plus profile set up. A couple nights ago I added my Google plus ID the correct way to my WordPress and added a couple public profiles from other sites I contribute to and low and behold the SEO juice kicked in immediately.

It makes sense though, because you're telling Google what you're about, where you contribute, and what you're a subject matter expert in. For example I added my Linked In profile, my Facebook profile and even Website Babble.

This is a big deal because you're starting to claim your authority. And to keep it simple, Google uses your G+ profile to put your story together. In addition, I'm pretty sure their weighing in the content and keywords you use on those sites when determining a search results.

The last thing I'll leave you with is keywords. I've found that taking a little time (and please take note I detest filing out keyword entries) to fill out your SEO fields with just one focused keyword. I've noticed that Google digs that strategy.

As I stated before, I don't wanna get too longwinded because many of the things I just mentioned have been stated before. I didn't reinvent the wheel here.

I just want you to know that if you lean out the garbage and concentrate on the content, and I sincerely mean make an honest effort to teach something, you start to get traffic. It's pretty gratifying and I feel like my on page SEO is starting to catch on nowadays.

Have a good one.

i have 3 blogs now that im working on. two are ranked well and one is new so still nothing...but i was wondering.
how do you spend your time working on each blog. my blogs are on 3 diferent niches. so bulding links to every one is a task that takes time. il write my general work schedule and please post your own so i can learn from it

every morning - i check ranking in the serp and go through my analytics and eranings.
then i try to build 3 links for each blog . this task takes most of my day .
if i have the time and energy i try to write new content or improve the blogs any way i can .

whats your day like ?? i find that most days i wont have much time for everything so i try to focus on links and on weekends i try to write new content. but its getting hard ...i work full time beside my blogs so there is not much time.
do you outsource your tasks ? ? how do you find time to work on many sites ?
i thought about out sourcing the content part but i tried it in the past and i still need to review the content and fix it to my liking so its not saving me any time il just write it myself. and outsourcing link building is not smart i think.:|
thanks :)
