Hello, I am new to HTML etc so hope you can help.

I'm designing a web page and will design with a1024px wide screen as my default, allowing a bit of space of course around the edge.

I want to create a 'container' for ALL sections of the site, which will automatically align to the centre, but am a bit stuck.

I opted to have the body 100% wide, so this will then provide a hint of colour no matter how wide a viewer's screen is. I wanted this container to be central, no matter how wide the screen resolution is.

I read somewhere that the postion property only works if the parent has position relativr, so did this for the body, but still no luck

I tried float, left and margin options, but still can't get the container to centrtalise.

Any help would be appreciated

Regards !

Finally, Google is taking serious action to clean up AdWords.Google reportedly cleaned house in October, although their statements were few and undefinitive. However, Google is making another hard push to get scammers and spammers kicked off AdWords, and Nick Fox, Google’s Business Product Management Director for AdWords has told Search Enghine Round Table that there are new changes coming and advertisers will be banned for breaking rules. Google will begin permanently banning advertisers at the account level, meaning these advertisers will be permanently banned, and their account and any new account will be banned from participating in AdWords.
give your opinion about this?

Even With Backups, How Long Are You Down?

As a mobile-only laptop user, I rely heavily on my USB key.
My clients' websites along with their server information are the most important things on there.
Of course, my personal websites and financial information are stored, too.

Two days ago, the key went totally flaky, disconnecting after copying any large number of files.
It's a SanDisk Cruzer 8GB and I never even got to fill it up!

I finally went out and bought a new USB key, a SanDisk GigaWare 4GB, $12 from Radio Shack.
Most of the important stuff was backed up onto the laptop;
however, to be absolutely certain that the key was synched with the Laptop,
I spent 8 hours connecting and reconnecting the blasted key until the job was done.
Because of my work, some backups are obsolete within days.
The fastest way for me to find newer files is to use a comparison program like Beyond Compare 2.

Then, TODAY, I realized that I didn't have all my RoboForm folders synched.
For instance, I couldn't find the password for Website Babble (horrors!)
See, my main backup is a single folder containing all project folders and other categories.
RoboForm is not within that single folder, but I have a second backup task for that one.
Unfortunately, I forgot to copy the rest of the support folders for RoboForm.
The good news is, I had taken advantage of their free download of GoodSync and was able to resynch from their servers.

All in all, the transfer to the new USB key went smoothly.
It could have gone better if I had bothered to dump the entire Key to the laptop, periodically.
That only works if I don't update projects daily.
Otherwise, I'm better off with an incremental backup system.

I've written extensively about backup processes on HubPages.
(I can't link to it because I have an affiliate link for RoboForm there, but you can search Hubpages for Mitchell Allen .)

If you don't have a backup plan, your computer will make one for you and you won't like it.

Do you have any backup stories to share?

Cheers,

Mitch

If you do love your site, I'm sure you would change the design / style / look of it from time to time. If it was an original design, when you take it down in favor of a new one, what would you do with the retired one?

Simply throw it away? Use it for another site? Make it a template and release it free?

I'd squeeze the last drop of value from it by releasing it free. :p

Don't get me wrong, I'm not one to clutter a page choc full of ads so just hear me out.

My situation is this, on most of my pages, I have two ads (Adsense); one vertical image in the right column and another horizonal image banner within my page. The right image banner recieves more impressions and has recieved more clicks than the horizontal ad.

I was thinking to remove the horizontal ad and leave the right banner but overall when clicks aren't happening they both provide revenue by means of impressions.

My food for thought to you all is this, would taking out the horizontal ad hurt my revenue stream judging by the statistics given above. It is a little early in the game for me to be asking as traffic is still a factor for my site but overall I kind of wanted to provide a site clutter free with minimal ads but yet providing each page with some sort of advertisements to gain revenue.
