Default .net, .info or -info.com?

Hi,

A few months ago I moved to another country and know first hand how hard it sometimes was to find information on things from housing/hotels and cars to restaurants and shopping. Nothing was in one place and I had to go searching all over the web for every little piece of information. The city we are in gets many searches every month, but only has a handful of websites devoted to it - many of which are either outdated or just plain cheesy. I've decided to build an information website about the city - one that overdelivers and gives the viewer everything they could possible be looking for and more. Since .com is already taken - both with and without a slash between the city and country, which ending should I use from the following:

city-country.info
city-country.net
city-country-info.com

Any ideas or suggestions?

I'd suggest the .com

Orlando-USA-Info.com is better than Orlando-USA.net or Orlando-USA.info to me.

In the end, all of them are okay, and the success of your site depends more on your content and marketing.

Yes, I agree with Johnathan. As long as your domain name isn't something silly and extremely long like orlando-usa-information-for-all-you-people.com, I think it depends on your content.

I fret a lot over these things, like the themes and layout (*cough* perfectionist *cough*) but It's better to just get it done and spend the time you do thinking about these things on writing and editing your content.

If I were you, .info would be the better solution, as your site is more on the informative side.

I think I'm going to go with Jonathan's suggestion and go for the com ending. Now I just have to get motivated enough to start building the site!

Well I suggest you go to all those separate sites you were talking about, note them down and categorize them. Then you can start building your web page structure slowly. I can help with the design if you need to. If you want help, you can always PM me.

Good Luck!

Thanks for the offer of help, Talicy. I will let you know if I get stuck & need your services.
I spent about an hour or two today organizing, researching and drawing out my site layout & design on paper. I think I'm almost ready to start building the site. The way it looks now, I have about 8-10 main headings with 3-5 sub headings for each one. Each subheading might end up having anywhere from 3-10 pages. Just the thought of having to build so many pages is making me overwhelmed, but I'm going to force myself to do it, one page at a time until it gets completed. I'm unemployed right now, so luckily I have all the time in the world.
I still haven't registered my name, though. I should go do that right now.

I don't really think this is necessary, as he already registered his domain.

Anyways, I think the reason you are scared is because you're scared that once you start, it'll start getting messy and all the inter-connecting links will go broken etc?

Well that always happens, and it's common. If you read my post above and researched all the information you need, you can simply take those notes and change them into paragraphs.

If you're saying you're scared of making a mess of the CSS etc., then I can help you make a simple template or something of the sort.

Good Luck!

Because if you don't start it, it can't fail.

I can't tell you how many times I had an idea and put it off and put it off because when it was just an idea in my head it could be all of these great, wonderful things and while it might be that in reality as well it could also be a big fat failure

I just started my blog a little over 3 months ago. You know how long ago I decided I wanted to start my blog? 4 years

Actually extensions do not really matter in terms with ranking; all of them are rank-able. It only depends on how extensive your online marketing is.
